OSU Notebook: Missing person

Brady Bond, Oklahoma State's senior right offensive tackle, had a streak of 34 consecutive starts snapped Saturday. He did not play against Iowa State because he sustained what is believed to be a sprained ankle in practice last week.

Andrew Mitchell started in Bond's place. A senior from Choctaw, Mitchell had made only one previous start — at right guard in the season opener. The rest of the Cowboy offensive line — Russell Okung at left tackle, Noah Franklin at left guard, Andrew Lewis at center and Lane Taylor at right guard — remained the same.

If Bond had been healthy, he would have made his 40th career start. Bond played eight-man football at Garber High School. Mike Gundy said Bond will be evaluated, but the coach doesn't expect him to play against Texas Tech next week.

Milestone pass: Zac Robinson became OSU's career passing leader on a scoring play — a 10-yard touchdown pass at the 9:50 mark of the second quarter. The answer to the trivia question — who caught the pass that put Robinson over the hump? — is freshman receiver Tracy Moore of Union.

Moore is the son of former University of Tulsa basketball player (and ex-NBA player) Tracy Moore. Catching a history-making pass from Robinson isn't the younger Moore's first brush with fame. When he was a kid, he once got to ride on a bus with Michael Jordan.

Road warriors: OSU has won four consecutive league road games for the first time since 1979. The Cowboys won a road finale at Colorado last season and have beaten Texas A&M, Baylor and Iowa State on the road this season. They have only one road game — a regular season finale at Oklahoma — remaining.

Party like it's 1997: OSU won in Ames for the first time since 1997, which means that Robinson was the first Cowboy quarterback to win there since Chris Chaloupka and Tony Lindsay shared the job. OSU improved to 11-11-1 all-time in Ames.

Northern exposure: In OSU's last 11 games against Big 12 North Division opponents, the Cowboys are 9-2.

Sidelined: Bryant Ward, one of OSU's more effective special teams players, sustained a shoulder injury in the first half and did not play in the second half. The severity of his injury is not known.

Half mast: From a flag standpoint, OSU had its best game of the year. The Cowboys were penalized four times for 20 yards.

Global warming: When Gundy first saw that OSU would be playing a November game in Ames, he expected cold weather. Temperature at kickoff was 71 degrees. "It was awesome to be in short sleeves up here," Gundy said.

Going the distance: Gundy said a tone was set for the game when his team drove 98 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. "That's pretty demoralizing to a defense," he said. "Not taking anything away from them, but when you have a drive like that, it really can change a game."
