Home remedy for OU
For now, OU cures many ills in rout of Texas A&M
OU quarterback Landry Jones threw for 392 yards and five touchdowns in his team's win over Texas A&M on Saturday. Mike Simons/Tulsa World

NORMAN — With a grumpy crowd growing thin, mistakes piling up on the offensive line and a curiously revolving door at kicker, Texas A&M came to town just in time.
Oklahoma blasted the Aggies 65-10 on Saturday at Memorial Stadium, curing, for now, many of the ills that sprouted throughout last week's four-alarm loss at Nebraska.
"The offense, we needed that, man," said receiver Ryan Broyles.
The official attendance was listed at 85,013, but it was less than that, and by the start of the fourth quarter — with OU ahead 58-10 — the stadium was less than a quarter full. An unexpected cold front dropped temperatures into the 40s and chased away some, but many were also put off by continuing errors — enough to rain down verbal jeers after more false start penalties and wayward placekicks.
After a dismal showing last week in Lincoln — a Bob Stoops era-low three points in a 10-3 loss — the Sooners' first seven offensive possessions against Texas A&M netted just one touchdown, four first downs, 110 yards and a costly turnover.
"Started off a little slow," Stoops said, "but then got things going."
Against college football's 95th-ranked overall defense (98th in points allowed), OU mounted a 42-10 halftime lead and amassed a season-high 640 yards of total offense.
It was the most points scored by an OU team since last year's trip to College Station, a 66-28 victory over the Aggies.
Last week, Landry Jones threw five interceptions. This week, he threw five touchdown passes.
"Landry took care of the football," Stoops said. "That's a big factor."
Said Jones, "I was really proud to see our offense come together like it did tonight."
The Sooners (6-4 overall, 4-2 Big 12), in their 10th game, finally achieved their sixth victory and gained bowl eligibility, the latest OU has won its sixth game in 11 seasons under Stoops.
OU extended to 29 its school record for consecutive home victories — longest in the nation — and improved to 65-2 at home all-time under Stoops.
Texas A&M (5-5, 2-4) lost for the fifth time in its last seven games and has now dropped seven in a row to Oklahoma.
"Tonight was about the Oklahoma Sooners," Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman said. "There's enough of a challenge there to begin with, and we just didn't do things very well. ... We weren't very good today."
Jones completed 24-of-39 passes for a career-high 392 yards and five touchdown passes, while DeMarco Murray put together a career-high 143 yards and two touchdowns receiving and another 80 yards rushing. Chris Brown ran for two touchdowns, Adron Tennell caught two TD passes as the Sooners were virtually unchallenged after a slow start.
The OU offensive line again suffered a handful of pre-snap penalties — "incredibly disappointed," Stoops said — but, despite another injury, this time an ankle sprain to freshman Tyler Evans, the unit seemed to finally settle in. A&M defensive end Von Miller, the nation's leader with 15 1/2 quarterback sacks, didn't get close to Jones.
Maybe more impressive was the performance of the Oklahoma defense. The Aggies came into the game leading the Big 12 at 478 yards per game total offense, but finished with 226. In the second quarter alone, OU outgained A&M 191-23 in total offense.
"Nothing Superman-like," said defensive coordinator Brent Venables. "Just guys being disciplined and trusting each other and playing like they're capable of."
OU even got a boost on special teams from sophomore placekicker Patrick O'Hara, who stepped in and made a 26-yard field goal and two point-after-touchdown kicks.
He was needed after Jimmy Stevens had a PAT blocked and Tress Way sent a field goal wide right.
Asked about his decision to bring on O'Hara — who has never kicked in a football game before, but got a game ball in the postgame locker room — Stoops said it was "pretty obvious: one guy doesn't get it up high enough, and the other guy misses it."
After his field goal with 17 seconds left in the third quarter made it 58-10, O'Hara was cheered wildly by the sparse crowd and mobbed by his teammates.

Idiot Sooner fan: "Wait! Don't fire Wilson and Stoops! They're geniuses now! I take back everything I said! But if they screw up in the 2nd half, what I said before goes."

65-10 with a lot of time left. Bob better be careful or he'll have little Mikey Lupica on his butt again.

Hmmm....Landry Jones isn't that bad.
The offense isn't that bad.
Last week's loss was because Nebraska has a superior Defense and the BETTER team won.
just say'n.
of course, I'm a homer.

What say you now about Tres Way's field goal kicking? Way was so wide right on his one FG attempt that he received a call from Rush Limbaugh before he even made it back to the Sooner sideline.

Nebraska would lose to Oklahoma in Norman or on a neutral field. They barely managed to win a game in which 5 picks were thrown. That would never happen again. Nebraska is not the better team, but it's okay, you are an admitted homer.

Why is scottybegood bragging up Boise State and the WAC? Is that even a real conference? It must be real tough up there playing San Jose State, Univ of Idaho and Louisiana Tech U! Ya TCU really deserves a number 4 ranking after there amazing year of taking down powerhouses like Southern Methodist and Texas State! What a couple of miracle seasons that will go down in the books as a miracle at the least! They'll definetly make movies about it! Hahahaha give me a break!

OU's 2009 m/o? Beat up on teams that don't have a defense. Get shut down by those that do.

I think Bob Stoops deserves a big pay raise.A possible 8-4 season certainly demands some additional compensation.

Nothing like a weak defense to make "an offense come together."

Nice job by the Sooners. How about score comparison for our Sunday?
OSU 36 - A&M 31
A&M 10 - OU 65
Even during a down year, the Sooners have a good chance of knocking off OSU in Norman.

OSU is not going to win in Norman. History has shown that OSU has to be extremely lucky to get a win against big brother. Only 17 wins in over 100 tries? OSU will come to Norman believing this is their chance, but will be turned away in a rather rude manner.
As far as this game, the only thing is did was continue to verify that our defense is no joke. Texas A&M's defense is so inept, they even made our offense look good. Landry Jones still has tunnel vision and cannot see the field, and our offensive line is still as pathetic as it's been all year.

OU will win bedlam and the rest of their games for this year. I think their rookies sorta understand the way they do it in college football. I think they also don't want Bob Stoops getting mad at them.
BOOMER SOONER!!!
