OSU Storylines: Robinson-Weeden

BEDLAM STARTER?
Brandon Weeden: May be a 50-50 deal whether it's him or Zac Robinson to start at QB against OU.

Even if Mike Gundy knows Zac Robinson's status by Monday or Tuesday, the coach won't be making any grand, definitive announcement. Who gets the Bedlam start? Sources indicate that it's a 50-50 deal — it might be Robinson and it might be Brandon Weeden, the second-half hero against Colorado. In 2001, OSU won at Norman with a backup quarterback — Josh Fields.

Ground game: Against an Oklahoma team ranked eighth nationally in rushing defense and allowing only 91 yards per game, Texas Tech ran for 161 yards (4.6 per attempt). The Red Raiders rank dead last in Big 12 rushing at 79 yards per game. Even in Norman, can the Cowboys rush for 200 yards against OU? With 331 yards at Iowa State, 243 against Texas Tech and 232 against Colorado, the Cowboys ground game has hit its stride.

Defense: Not even the most optimistic, diehard OSU fan could have expected this. In 2002-08, the Cowboys did not finish any season with a national total-defense ranking of better than 74th. OSU's current rankings are 31st in total defense and an astounding No. 4 in rushing defense.

Seven OSU opponents have been held below the 100 mark in rushing yards. The Sooners averaged 1.8 yards per rush attempt at Texas Tech. The top priority for OSU — stuffing the Sooner ground game and forcing Landry Jones to make mistakes in the passing game.

Thank you Bill Young! Truly the best defensive coaching job done by anybody this year.

a proud cowboy who has finally come home to help. Can't help but like the way those alumni coaches have worked out.

Bill Young got those young men to buy into his system of fundamental defense: mainly, making tackles. Cudos to Young, but especially to the players because they had to make it happen on the field.
