Up close: OSU's Andrew Lewis
Oklahoma State's Andrew Lewis will take on Oklahoma and All-America tackle Gerald McCoy in Bedlam on Saturday. STEPHEN HOLMAN / Tulsa World

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State center Andrew Lewis is getting ready to knock heads, quite literally, with All-America tackle Gerald McCoy of Oklahoma.
Lewis shouldn't be scared. He's got scarier things to worry about — like getting married after the season is over.
"It's a good thing, getting married," Lewis said, laughing.
But Lewis is serious about the chore he will face Saturday in Norman.
"I have played them for the last two years and they are always the best (defensive) line I play against every year," the senior said. "It is going to be a big challenge, but it's also fun to see how you kind of compare to those guys."
Could the Bedlam outcome hinge on how well OSU's blockers perform?
"We've got to keep them off our quarterback and give him time, and we've got to run-block real well, just like Texas Tech did against them, to have a chance at beating them," Lewis said. "I definitely think it's on the offensive line."
Lewis is one of four senior starters in the Cowboy line and has had a "really fine year," according to position coach Joe Wickline.
"In fact, he's had a great career," Wickline said. "He's a reason why we're at the point where we are today. He runs things inside. In my opinion, I think he's the best center in the conference by far."
Can you tell the story about how you picked your wedding date?
Back in February, we got engaged. We looked at the national championship (date). We are like, well, we are going to have a pretty good year this year, you know, and if we make it to the national championship, we can't be getting married on the same day. So, we looked at the date and just moved it back another week and decided we will get married the next week.
Did you meet your fiance on campus?
She was actually in Orange Pride, for football and stuff like that. We met when I was a freshman and she was a sophomore. We met and just started dating ever since.
You're about to wrap up your career, but didn't you come close to leaving when you were a freshman?
It was more like when you first get to college, you are homesick and you want to go home. I got to two-a-days and you think two-a-days are Monday through Friday. But I had a hard realization that it's seven days a week for three weeks straight. I wasn't really prepared for that. I was like, coach Gundy, I don't know if I can handle all of this. He said, "Andrew, just stay here. It will be fine. Once school starts, you will have a great time. It will be a lot more fun than it is right now." So I just stuck with it.
Considering how things turned out, aren't you pleased you stuck around?
I'm definitely glad. I don't know what I would be doing with my life if I didn't stay here — probably going to some junior college or something small like that. But I'm definitely glad I stayed here.

Very true 9094. Coach Wick usually never praises his linemen like that. It speaks great volumes about Andrew that he would be so highly complimented.
