Thunder Notebook: Ruffin's homecoming

Former University of Tulsa standout Michael Ruffin is battling for one of the Thunder's final roster spots. He saw playing time for the first time this preseason on Wednesday, grabbing one rebound in 11 minutes of action. Ruffin was 0-for-2 from the field.

Being near Tulsa is "one of the reasons why I wanted to come to Oklahoma," Ruffin said.

"I've said it before, that I wanted to play at least one year here in Oklahoma, being closer to the people that came and supported me throughout my entire college career," said Ruffin, who is entering his 10th NBA season.

"It doesn't last forever, so I'm trying to make the most of it while I have the opportunity."

Ruffin said he hopes that being back in Oklahoma will give him the chance to attend a few TU basketball games this season.

White back in Tulsa: Former Tulsa 66er D.J. White was back in town. The second-year forward missed much of last season with jaw surgery and is trying to rebound with the Thunder after a solid college career at Indiana.

"It's good to be back," White said. "It's always good for us to come down here, show our love for the community and let them see us play. I know it's a long drive to Oklahoma City, but we're here tonight."

Collison, Harden out: Thunder forward Nick Collison did not play Wednesday with a sprained right ankle. No. 3 overall pick James Harden didn't play for Oklahoma City, either, because he didn't fit in the rotation, Thunder coach Scott Brooks said.
