NORMAN — Oklahoma tight end Jermaine Gresham was arrested Monday night on a warrant issued over his failure to pay a seatbelt citation.

According to Norman police officer Jennifer Newell, Gresham was issued the citation Feb. 2. Newell said Gresham did not pay the ticket and did not appear before authorities to set a court appearance regarding the matter. Thus police issued a warrant Feb. 17.

After his arrest, Gresham was taken to Norman Municipal Court, where, Newell said, he posted a $349 bond to comply with the outstanding citation and the warrant.

Gresham earned All-America honors last year while catching 66 passes for 950 yards and a team-high 14 touchdowns. He passed up an early shot at the NFL last January by deciding to return to OU for a senior season.

Gresham just concluded spring practice along with the rest of the Sooners. He was held out of the Red-White Game last Saturday for precautionary reasons.

haha...

1) wear your seatbelt!
2) if you get a ticket, pay it!
3) if you are suppose to go to court, GO!

these are not complicated ideas.

cant believe he had a warrent issued for almost 2 full months without even being notified or anything...I mean, its not like he has been hiding!!!

Jermaine, that is a $20-25 ticket! What were you thinking?

You would have to go to court just like any other traffic violation if you don't pay the fine.

If you play on a college team, DON'T BREAK THE LAW. Did you learn from past Sooners?

Many times these superstar jocks seem to feel they are above the law---success apparently goes to their head--

Kick him off the team! jk. But as an OU all-american, I doubt it will be financial tough for him to pay the ticket. They're the highest paid athletes in the state (after the Thunder)

isn't it nice the Norman PD is paying attention to the OU football players, making sure they wear their seatbelts so they don't get hurt in a car wreck.

Hey Jermain, you should wear the seatbelt at the first game this year.

Come on Jermaine. Get your head out. DowntownDan, if you're counting the scholarship money they get as income, then University of Tulsa scholarship athletes are the 2nd highest paid in the state.

What a joke... an arrest over seatbelts? What a stupid nanny state law anyway.

He should have had an agent buy his parents a house and get wads of cash like Reggie Bush... no way he would have gotten in trouble then.

Is this for real? Failure to pay a ticket (seatbelt violation none the less) gets the kid thrown in jail. Yes, he should wear his seat belt and yes he should have paid the fine - but give me a break. We have felony offenders, repeat drug users, repeat sex offenders on the streets and we put a kid in jail for this...Unbelievable!

Wow, a police force out to prove something! What a shame they had to make such a big issue out of a seat belt violation.

Seat belt laws for adults are just like car seat laws for kids. Anyone over the age of 30 grew up without being belted into the car or in a car seat and shucks we are still alive!

The headline is misleading.

He wasn't arrested for a seatbelt violation. He was arrested for thumbing his nose at a ticket.

Equal enforcement of the law for players in Norman? Who'da thunk?

I'm just surprised a booster didn't pay the fine for him. ;)

Hold it! Hold it! Hold it! I live in the DFW area and I had a few outstanding toll tag fees - which made no sense because i had $ on my account, but since the liscence tag changed, they didn't charge it to my account. I finally saw some old letters about this fee. I called the toll tag people and they had my home address, home phone, AND email! But they only sent a generic letter. When I went to the court house, the clerk said "we will lift your warrant". I'm like WHAT????? Just because people have warrants out for them does NOT mean they KNOW they have warrants out for them.

This is a waste of taxpayer's money.

I'm off the mic!!!

If you are at all interested in OU athletics you must be interested in the enforcment of ALL laws in Noeman. I am sure that Florida and California schools are salivating at the REDNECK ways os Oklahoma.
