30 Oklahoma players chosen during day two of baseball draft

A total of 30 players from Oklahoma were taken Wednesday on the second day of the Major League Baseball Draft.

That total includes seven players from the University of Oklahoma, five from Oklahoma State and two from Oral Roberts.

The first three rounds were held Tuesday, and five Oklahomans were picked. Rounds four through 30 unfolded Wednesday. The draft concludes Thursday with rounds 31 through 50.

* Randy Henry, a right-handed pitcher from Arnett who played at Texas Tech and South Mountain (Ariz.) Community College, went in the fourth round (No. 114 overall) to the Baltimore Orioles.

* OU right-hander Andrew Doyle, a junior from Rock Island, Ill., was picked in the fourth round (124th) by the Texas Rangers. Doyle went 8-4 with a 4.21 earned run average this season.

* Oklahoma State right-hander Tyler Blandford, a junior from Owensboro, Ky., went with the second pick of the fifth round (143rd) to the Seattle Mariners. Blandford went 7-4 with a 5.31 ERA for the Cowboys this season.

* Ashur Tolliver, a left-handed pitcher at Oklahoma City University, also was picked by the Orioles in the fifth round (146th). Tolliver went 10-1 with a 3.74 ERA for the Stars this season.

* OU senior J.T. Wise, the Big 12 player of the year as the Sooners' catcher this season, was drafted in the fifth round (157th) by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Wise, a senior from Apopka, Fla., hit .359 this year with 17 home runs and 62 RBIs.

* ORU pitcher Mark Serrano, a senior from Downey, Calif., went in the sixth round (179th) to the Cincinnati Reds. Serrano was 9-1 for the Golden Eagles with 2.50 ERA, with his only defeat coming in the NCAA Tournament.

* Oklahoma centerfielder Jamie Johnson, a junior from Calhoun, La., went in the seventh round (210th) to the Detroit Tigers. Johnson batted .353 this season with 13 home runs and 44 RBIs.

* Dallas Keuchel, a left-handed pitcher who played at Bishop Kelley High School and collegiately at Arkansas, was a seventh-round pick (221st) by the Houston Astros.

* John Freeman, a Carney native, was selected by the New York Mets in the eighth round (254th). Freeman is a junior at McNeese State.

* OU pitcher Chase Anderson, a junior from Wichita Falls, Texas, was chosen in the ninth round (276th) by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Anderson went 3-1 this season with a 4.97 ERA.

* OU shortstop Bryant Hernandez went on the next pick (277th) to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ninth round. Hernandez, a junior from Oxnard, Calif., batted .351 for the Sooners with 12 home runs and 62 RBIs this season.

* Oklahoma State left-hander Tyler Lyons was taken by the New York Yankees in the 10th round (315th). Lyons, a junior from Lubbock, Texas, was 7-6 with a 4.07 ERA.

* OU first baseman Aaron Baker, a junior from Denton, Texas, was an 11th-round pick (325th) of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He batted .284 with 15 home runs and 56 RBIs this season.

* Oklahoma State outfielder Neil Medchill, a junior from Oxford, Mich., went in the 11th round (345th) to the Yankees. Medchill hit .332 this season with 14 home runs and 47 RBIs.

* With the next pick, ORU right-hander Andre Lamontagne was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers. LaMontagne, a senior from Santa Maria, Calif., went 6-2 with a 2.97 ERA this season.

* Lane Adams, an outfielder at Red Oak, was the first Oklahoma high school player picked Wednesday. He went in the 13th round (392nd) to the Kansas City Royals. * Southern Nazarene right-hander Matthew Morgal was drafted by Toronto in the 13th round (400th).

* Connors State College catcher Peter Bako went in the 15th round (445th) to the Pirates.

* Oklahoma City right-hander Justin Harper was taken in the 17th round (521st) by Houston.

* OSU center fielder Michael Dabbs, a senior from Cushing, was picked by World Series champion Philadelphia in the 17th round (527th).

* OSU lefty Thomas Keeling, a junior from Ropesville, Texas, went in the 20th round (615th) by the Yankees.

* In the 21st round (629th), Memorial right-hander Jon Reed was selected by Cincinnati.

* Andrew Heaney, a left-handed pitcher from Putnam City, was picked in the 24th round (739th) by the Tampa Bay Rays.

* OU right-hander Antwonie Hubbard, a junior from Hooks, Texas, went in the 26th round (785th) to the Cleveland Indians.

* Oklahoma City University infielder Brent Weaver also was taken in the 26th round (788th) by Florida.

* OU's Matt Harughty, the Sooners' junior second baseman, was a 26th-round pick (793rd) by the Chicago White Sox.

* Tobin Mateychick, a senior right-hander from Enid High School, went in the 28th round (840th) to the Tigers.

* Owasso's Justin Beal, a senior infielder at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Mo., went in the 28th round (857th) to the Phillies.

* Garen Wright, a senior outfielder at Putnam City High School, was taken in the 29th round (881st) by Houston.

* Right-handed pitcher Stephen Kohlscheen, a sophomore from Norman, also joined the world champs when he was taken in the 30th round (917th) out of Cowley County (Kan.) Community College.
