OU football recruit fails to qualify

One of Oklahoma’s first commitments from its 2009 recruiting class won’t be making it to Norman after all.

Defensive end Terry Franklin, out of Mansfield (Texas) Legacy High School, failed to qualify at OU and instead will be enrolling at Tyler (Texas) Junior College, his coach said Friday.

“It’s too bad,” said Legacy coach Chris Melson, who played quarterback at OU in the late 1980s to early 1990s. “He graduated, but his grades needed to be higher.”

Franklin, who committed to OU last February, was seen as somewhat of a project because Legacy, a new school and a new football program, has been competing against junior-varsity opponents. But at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds with great speed, Melson said the Sooner coaches liked Franklin’s upside.

ah well, we'll keep looking. We need quality on the field and in the classroom.

I wonder if he wishes he had studied more now!
Life is what you make it, he let himself down.

I imagine the Boomers are saying the kid's crap. If it ain't a sooner, it's crap.

More to life than football, hopefully he will take the junior college route and head to a university.

new school and new football program -- doesn't seem like they're doing very well with either one.
