Newspaper: OSU's Taylor taking post at Auburn

While there still is no definitive word on the status of Oklahoma State co-offensive coordinator Trooper Taylor, the Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register indicated that "it seems very likely" that Taylor will accept a position at Auburn.

Taylor reportedly was in Alabama on Sunday for a meeting with new Auburn football coach Gene Chizik. On its Web site, the Press-Register published a photo of Taylor and Chizik. The photo was taken as they conversed at a small Alabama airport.

Cowboy coach Mike Gundy confirmed that Chizik had requested permission to speak with Taylor, but it was not known on Sunday whether Taylor was offered a job.

An attempt to contact Taylor was unsuccessful.

Auburn has hired Cowboy running backs coach Curtis Luper and University of Tulsa co-offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. Luper reportedly accepted an offer of $400,000 a year. At OSU, he was paid $228,000.

Taylor, also paid $228,000 by OSU, just completed his first season on the Cowboy staff. He coached wide receivers.

If Taylor does join Luper at Auburn, Gundy will have three vacancies on his staff. Last month, defensive coordinator Tim Beckman departed to become the new head coach at Toledo.

I really don't see the logic in going to Auburn right now. They shafted Tuberville and now they are going to get their teeth kicked in every year as long as Saban is at Bama. Seems to me that OSU is poised to have a great 2009. Why not ride the wave and cash it in after next year? OSU is on the way up. Auburn is on the way down and the abyss seems bottomless at this point.

Maybe for the money? A $172,000.00 raise sounds pretty good right now!

So let me get this straight...

OSU is poised for their best season ever in 2009 and we have 2 coaches leave.

Seems to me there is nothing we'll be able to do to keep good coaches in Stillwater if we can't keep em there now.
