Football recruit switches to OSU
Dexter Pratt, coached by Fedora's brother, was committed to LSU.

Months ago, Dexter Pratt announced his commitment to the LSU football program. He was on course to graduate at mid-term from Navasota (Texas) High School, and he planned to enroll at LSU and participate in spring drills with the Tigers.

Pratt did graduate early from high school, but during a recent trip to Baton Rouge, La., he did not move into a dorm room or enroll in classes. Instead, for reasons that have not been made public, he decided that he would not attend LSU, and that he would make a recruiting visit to Oklahoma State.

That visit occurred over the weekend, and on Sunday night the 6-foot-2, 227-pound Pratt — rated by Scout.com as the nation's No. 11 running back prospect — announced his commitment to OSU.

"Dexter is 100 percent solid — a verbal commit to Oklahoma State. No more visits to any other schools. He's done," said Navasota coach Lee Fedora, the brother of Larry Fedora, the former OSU offensive coordinator and current Southern Miss head coach.

Pratt is expected to enroll at OSU as soon as possible this week, perhaps and be on the field when spring practice begins in mid-March.

"I got involved with it," Lee Fedora said. "I knew that the OSU coaches are guys I can trust. I knew that Dexter could make his own decision, but I also know (Cowboy coach) Mike Gundy and (Cowboy assistant) Doug Meacham are outstanding coaches. I knew they would do a good job with Dexter."

Meacham was the OSU coach most directly involved in the recruiting of Pratt.

If Pratt does sign with the Cowboys on Feb. 4 (the first date on which recruits may sign national letters of intent), he will be the highest-rated running back signed by OSU since Gundy became coach in 2005.

During his junior and senior seasons, Pratt rushed for a combined total of 39 touchdowns and nearly 3,400 yards. He also was a track athlete at Class 3A Navasota, competing in the sprints and relays. In basketball last year, he was voted the MVP of Navasota's district.

"Dexter has his own style. He can run around you or run you over," Lee Fedora said. "He runs a 4.48 (seconds in the 40-yard dash), he has unbelievable hands and he's a big back."

Navasota is located 17 miles south of the Texas A&M campus in College Station. In March, just prior to the announcement of his commitment to LSU, Pratt told Scout.com that he had received scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Southern Miss "and a bunch more."

That is cute, Legalist.

If you are an OU fan, it is funny you bring up paying players. Comical, really.

Impressive comments. NCAA clearinghouse issue of some sort, OSU had open spring semester slot.

Bill: I don't believe you have to sign on Feb. 4 if you're enrolled and on scholarship...

Legalist, Boone just lost all his money. So, we're again behind OU, just as we've been, in being able to pay our players the money OU does. I'm jelous of OU, I'd love to have the money you get. Take a look at the budgets. OSU has half the money compared to OU. But, we do not have the Gaylords an all the other big donors who together over the past few years have given far more than Boone. You will still win the Big 12 so don't worry about posting anything about OSU recruits. We get the guys you don't want.

Good luck with that one. I hope it works out for you.
