OSU's Ford apologizes for his language
Ford

Oklahoma State basketball coach Travis Ford expressed remorse Monday for his language in an exchange with Obi Muonelo during last Saturday's game at Kansas.
Media outlets reported Ford was overheard during ABC's broadcast of the game calling the junior guard a "(expletive) idiot." A source close to the basketball program contended the coach did not call Muonelo an idiot and instead told Muonelo to "(expletive) get into it." OSU was pressing late in the game and "it" was in reference to the press, according to the source.
Regardless of what was said, the exchange became a hot topic in public opinion forums and Ford did a guest spot Monday on Oklahoma City radio station WWLS in an attempt to put the issue at rest.
"It was an unfortunate incident, something that I regret, no question," Ford said during the radio interview.
"You hope it doesn't happen. I made a mistake. It's something you can guarantee won't happen again. I've addressed it with the team. I shouldn't have said it, no question. I feel bad for the team and my family and the fans. It was just a heat of the moment. I'm an intense guy, a guy that's really into the game. I let the moment get the best of me. I feel very badly about it. That's not me."
Ford acknowledged earlier this season that he wants to cut down on profanity.
"I know he's made an effort to improve, but he's got to eliminate that," OSU athletic director Mike Holder told the Oklahoman on Monday. "I don't know what else you say about it. When I talked
to the coaching staff about it, I said you need to understand what we're in the business for. We're in it to help young people at a critical time in their lives, to make their dreams come true. So we've got to be role models. It's very important what you say, and how you say it."
Holder told the Oklahoman he has no doubt Ford is going to "do something about this."

Mr. Ford should try to control his language as an example to his kids. - this much is obvious.
However, if we begin to expect an apology in the TW every time this happens on big athletic stages like this...then the list is going to get very long, very fast.

Much ado about nothing. The players probably hear worse on their video games.

Coach Sutton may have dabbled in the sauce, but Coach Ford has been fillin up on loud mouth soup. It's very unbecoming...

You've got to be kidding me, how is this even news? Both Suttons, Billy Tubbs, Sampson, Capel, Stoops Bros, all have/do use that kind of language frequently along with 5 million other coaches. And the king of it, Pat Jones, is now very popular because of his mouth on the radio. Why all the sudden self-righteousness about young Coach Ford? There are more important and more interesting things to talk about than a D-1 hoops coach cussing a player.

Ford may have a case of "little man syndrome" After 24 years in the profession and I can tell you , you don't have to cuss to get your point accross. I know several officials that have done OSU games this year and they all say the same thing Ford cusses like no other. The announcers even commented on it during the OU/OSU game.

Go to a Thunder game when Memphis is in town and listen to assistant coach Kevin O'Neill. He makes sailors blush.

I'm sorry, but the use of profanity only shows a person's lack of vocabulary and control. It's a sad day to be a Cowboy...

Remember the technical fouls in the OU/OSU game? Ford is getting the type of team he is modeling.

As an alum, foundation member, posse member and OSU fan! I was worried by what I heard about Mr. Ford before he came. This is not the man for OSU. Holder made a very poor choice. Attendance is poor! Play is poor! The young men do not look like they are happy, enthusiatic, informed or confident. OSU should always strive to wear a "white hat" of good sportsmanship, pride, honor and respect. Yes, we want to win but we want to do it the right way. I was embarrassed at the one game I attended. Ford was rude, crude and very dumb. I am not prepared to go back and listen to the Ford "style" of coaching. I miss Coach Sutton. Let's get one of his many former players who are now successful coaches and good men. There is a reason Ford hasn't stayed long anywhere. I hope we have a basketball team after he leaves. I think he has one more year. My Posse friends think he will leave after this year. Ford doesn't like Stillwater anyway. I am sorry for the young men. I wish them well inspite of Ford.

I don't know what is worse Ford dropping th ef bomb on natioanl TV and calling his player an idiot or this quote
"A source close to the basketball program contended the coach did not call Muonelo an idiot and instead told Muonelo to "(expletive) get into it."
Does this source think this need covered up?
I only hope the players and fans speak to Ford the way he addresses others

The reason he's issued an apology is because it was heard on the ABC's national broadcast of the game. Obi nor his parents had anything to do with it, although I'm sure Ford called and apologized to them as well. Nobody wants to hear their son called a "F****** Idiot!!!" on national TV by their own coach.

hEY HERE WE GO , t fORD IS A JOKE HE COULDN`T GET IT DONE IN mASS. AND HE WON`T GET IT DONE HERE ... He does look like Bill Self from a distance, thats the only reason they hired him ... Boone ,oops I mean Holder just knew he had Bill coming back to OSU, thought you could buy ole Billy , so you fire a good coach who maybe liked to drink, and hire one with a foul mouth and no buffer on his brain... Travis do you talk to your wife and kids like that ... I guess it makes you look cool in front of the players... I can`t help it I have a hard time respecting you .........................
