Georgia coach speaks on OSU
Richt impressed by Cowboys' loaded offense this year.

Georgia coach Mark Richt speaks Thursday at the Southeastern Conference football Media Days in Hoover, Ala. Butch Dill/ Associated Press

On Thursday, during the second day of the three-day SEC Media Days event in Hoover, Ala., Georgia football coach Mark Richt discussed the Bulldogs' season-opening challenge — a Sept. 5 visit to Oklahoma State.

"Probably preseason Top 10 by most people," Richt said of the Cowboys. "Loaded offense coming back. A team that you hear the (Cowboy) coaches say, 'We've been kind of pointing to this season for the last couple years, opening a brand-new stadium.' I think they're charging $100 a ticket."

Georgia-OSU, set for a 2:30 p.m. start on KTUL-8, will be the first game played in completely renovated Boone Pickens Stadium. The $283 million renovation project is nearing completion.

Except for the 5,000 tickets allotted to the University of Georgia, no single-game tickets will be made available for Georgia-OSU. Oklahoma State fans will be admitted only if they purchase a season ticket. Single-game tickets will be made available for each of OSU's seven other home dates.

Various national predictions indicate that OSU could be destined for a Top 10 preseason ranking, while Georgia might be in the 10-15 range.

The Cowboys, Richt said, "are going to be off the chart when it comes to enthusiasm and excitement and expectations towards their season."

OSU coach Mike Gundy is certain to be asked about the Georgia showdown on Monday, when he meets with reporters on the opening day of the Big 12 Media Days session.

The Sept. 5 clash is the second game of a two-game OSU-Georgia contract. In the 2007 opener, the Cowboys were beaten 35-14 at Georgia. That Bulldog team was driven by quarterback Matthew Stafford and running back Knowshon Moreno. Stafford and Moreno now are NFL rookies.

Georgia's new QB is Joe Cox, a fifth-year senior who has not made a start since 2006, when he led the Bulldogs to victory at Ole Miss.

"We talk to our players after spring ball," Richt said. "We ask them, 'Who are the leaders on this football team, in your opinion?' I think it was, like, 106 out of 110 guys that did their exit meetings said Joe Cox. I think that's significant. He was the No. 1 vote-getter, if you want to call them votes.

"For a guy who hasn't started but one game his entire career I think that says a lot about what the guys think about Joe and what Joe has done in preparation for this moment."

Yeah T-townjack!

I was thinking the same thing. Pokes beat the dogs, Sooners beat the pokes, it'll make us look so much better. With it being home this year, OSU already has a little bit of an advantage.

Although home or not, SOONERS are gonna beat the crap out of them!
Watch out Tim Tebow, Our schooner is gonna run over your Gator this year!

All fans should hope for OU and OSU to be undefeated come Bedlam. It would be the biggest game ever between the two!

That is what I hope every season. Pokes win them all, Sooners win them all - and on that one single Saturday I root against the Pokes.

Beat the Dawgs and set the tone for the season, Cowboys!

Can't wait till fall!

but some are complementing us saying if we win the sooners look better because we gave them one HE!! of a fight in Bedlam last year till our Defense fell apart with 7 minutes left in the game.

Ok State had just better be ready for UGA, those guys are always tough to beat but we owe them one for that poor showing a couple of seasons ago.

On Richt, I like the guy, the kind of coach I personally would love to play for, and one of the top coaches in the country.

And every year in history the sooners beat the cowboys am i right? I think some years are a little different and last time we had an offense this great was 2001-2002 and besides last year's offense it will be even more outstanding this year without a doubt. we just need our defense to back us up and we are set for any game in my opinion. Go Cowboys? Ride and Spank that sooner and boomer!!!!!!!!!

I hope the boys in Stillwater win. I think its more important to the conference that the Cowboys win and not as much to the Sooners. OU's strength of schedule is plenty tough. I just ask one thing of OSU fans, fill up your stadium, it just looks bad when there are a bunch of empty seats.

Lol darockwilder.

Sorry, not just because I'm a huge sooner fan, but because of how they've done against you guys the last few years, I think the sooners are going to be riding over you guys. Again!
I just ask that you ride over the Bulldogs, because they can be pretty tough to beat.

BOOMER SOONER!

I can't argue with that. I'm doing my part and hopefully many more with follow. The OSU fans are out there. They just need to follow suit and actually help support our team!

Georgia will be very tough. Beating them will definitely set the tempo for the rest of the season. Go Pokes!!!

sorry, not just because im a huge fan of OSU, but because of how they "Gators" did you in the National Championship and how Texas did you! I just ask you keep your mouth shut till your team stops embarrassing our state by not winning any bowl games especially national championship ones with a #1 ranked team and a supposedly Heisman QB

Darock..."i love all the sooner posts on here they only root for us for their benefit"

Get over yourself already. What's the harm in that? Many people do the same, myself included. If an OU win benefits OSU I root for 'em...sort of, very reluctantly. Actually, I consider those "win-win situations". Sooners win and helps OSU, great! Sooners lose...that's great too! See, win win.

I still think the requirement of buying season tickets to see this game stinks. I'm in Houston and want to go to the game but, I'm not buying a season ticket to do so.

It seems to me that a better solution would simply be to charge more for single-game purchases. That wouldn't exclude out of town alumni that want to come back to premium games.

Darockwilder,
Just to let you know, there's only one reason the game was in MIAMI, FLORIDA! Get a clue...
Oh, and also in the Texas game, We would of won if they had accepted that one interception that OU had, but it was "pass Interference" and I saw real clear that the OU player didn't even touch receiver when he intercepted the ball. I say you shut your mouth because you sound one of those guys that never have anything positive to say and you can't mind your own business! You Better get ready for a newer and better year of BOOMER SOONER!!

TMS,
Wow you sound like the real clown. Actually I have a Family, Job, and my own house that I love very much. Just because I'm a huge OU fan doesn't mean I'm a teenager. How about next time you think before you say/comment.

I almost forgot. Darock, you need to come clean. For you to claim to be an OSWho grad and spell "win" w-h-e-n, does not help out the image of the school you seem to love so dearly. It doesn't make you less of a fan to root for a school you didn't attend or didn't earn a degree from. It's a free country and no one will think badly of you, like they do now. It's a when when situation. Sorry, I couldn't resist.
