Bulked-up Robinson ready
OSU quarterback Zac Robinson celebrates a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of OSU's 42-31 Holiday Bowl loss to Oregon last season. Tulsa World file

OSU Notebook: Onward and upward.
STILLWATER — When Zac Robinson arrived at Oklahoma State in 2005, he weighed 195 pounds.
Entering the 2008 season, he carried 210 pounds. Now, after an offseason of increased strength training, the 6-foot-3 Robinson is a 220-pound senior. He says the additional muscle will allow him to better cope with the physical demands of being an option quarterback.
"I never expected to get this big, but I feel good and my speed is good," Robinson said. "Being bigger could help me withstand hits from defensive guys, and it could give me a better chance of succeeding at the next level."
Beginning preparation for his second full season as the starting quarterback, Robinson and the Cowboys convene on Wednesday for their first preseason practice. OSU could be armed with a Top 10 national ranking when Georgia visits for the Sept. 5 opener at Boone Pickens Stadium.
Robinson, who has supplanted OSU coach Mike Gundy as the school's record-holder in career total offense, has a streak of 24 consecutive starts.
"Zac was 185 pounds in high school," Gundy said. "You know how it is guys work hard in the weight room, and they just keep getting bigger. Zac is just as athletic as he's always been. He's just a lot bigger."
While Robinson's job security is rock-solid, OSU has uncertainty otherwise. During the spring, neither Brandon Weeden nor Alex Cate distinguished himself as the clear-cut backup QB. Gundy says he wants a clearly defined and capable No. 2 quarterback. A new factor in the quarterback situation is Clint Chelf, a 6-3, 205-pound first-year freshman from Enid.
Last month, Robinson was in Orange County, Calif., to serve as a counselor during the Elite 11 Quarterback Camp. "It was awesome. A great experience," said Robinson, who was one of seven camp counselors. The others were Texas' Colt McCoy, Colorado's Cody Hawkins, Penn State's Daryll Clark and three NFL QBs Chase Daniel (formerly of Missouri and now on the Washington Redskin roster), Mark Sanchez (formerly of Southern Cal and now a New York Jets rookie) and Carson Palmer (formerly of Southern Cal and now a Cincinnati Bengals veteran).
Robinson, McCoy and Oklahoma's Sam Bradford were among camp coaches at the Manning Passing Academy in Thibodaux, La. The event was hosted by the Mannings former NFL quarterback Archie Manning and his sons Peyton (of the Indianapolis Colts) and Eli (of the New York Giants).

Watched a replay of the Oregon game recently. That helmet to helmet hit on Robinson while he was going down was tough to watch. Amazing that he even got up after that hit. Hope this is a good year for the Pokes.

Don't worry, America's Roast Beef, Yes Sir, Sir Zac will save his biggest game ever for the Land Grubbers, lol. 220? That's pretty thick. Guess Rob Glass gave him the superduper workout that hardly anyone can finish! ; )
