ORU basketball lowers ticket prices
By Staff Reports

Oral Roberts University is offering its own version of an economic stimulus package for fans of the men’s basketball team.
Starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, single-game tickets for seating in the end zone sections and upper level will be slashed to $5, ORU athletic director Mike Carter announced.
“The whole concept came as a reaction to the current economic situation,” said Mike Minyard, director of marketing/ticket sales.
“Indiana (University) made a similar announcement, so we followed them. We also wanted to make sure we remained affordable to families with young kids, since that’s our target audience,” Minyard said.
ORU has won five straight games and is undefeated in the New Year. The Golden Eagles are one-half game out of first place as they seek a fifth consecutive Summit League regular-season game.
The Golden Eagles will host Missouri-Kansas City at 7 p.m. Thursday and Southern Utah at 7 p.m. Saturday.
ORU also plans to allow youngsters to shoot layups on the Mabee Center floor after tjhe final three Saturday home games - Southern Utah, Indiana-Purdue Indianapolis (Feb. 14), and North Dakota State (Feb. 28).

Nice job ORU. The games are fun to attend, snacks are reasonable, seats are comfy, with lots of legroom! Free parking! Maybe the best place in the state to watch basketball. Tulsa and the area in general, need to support the ORU program more.

Why bother paying anything to watch basketball? I just make my own popcorn, and head on down to the Y. Those boys can play!

I recommend you rescind that comment. ORU is a great team. We should support them! Go OSU!!

You're just scared now guy. I'm on to you. I saw you doing cannonballs at the Y. Trying to get out of the pool like you're the man and cruising over to the life guard...

"Indiana (University) made a similar announcement, so we followed them"
Exactly what I thought...I figured a great, historical, tradition rich b ball program like ORU would follow suit when Indiana cut prices. It makes sense that two perennial Final Four teams would do it at the same time...Oh wait...

Maybe he meant to say Indiana....University Purdue University Indianapolis...
That is more ORU level.

What about us poor saps who paid $17 per ticket as part of the season ticket package? What type of economic relief will we get? Do we get a refund of $12 per ticket?

Your $17 season ticket has much more value - it guaranteed you the same seat for every game of the season (not just the ones that are left on the schedule), and in a premium viewing area. The $5.00 ticket promotion is for "best available" seating on a game-by-game basis, outside your area of the arena. That doesn't make you a "poor sap" - it makes you a "season ticket holder", which is a GOOD thing.

You can't buy $5 seats in the donor area... they are still $17 each for adults. The $5 seats are for end zone seats and the upper level seats. People still have to pay $17 to sit in the really good seats.

Good move ORU. YOu've good a very good product in a great environment. Combined with the need to have better fan support and the tough economic times, it makes perfect sense to offer the tickets for $5. In case anybody hasn't noticed, this team is going to sail through the Summit League and although ti isn't a very tough conference, it is still going to get ORU where they need to be, in the NCAA tournament. Go Eagles!
