The New Tulsa World Sports Extra: For the latest scores, stories, photos and stats on OU, OSU an TU football, as well as the rest of college football.

OSU offensive coordinator Larry Fedora went to his bag of tricks early in the fourth quarter Saturday.

Fedora called a reverse pass. Wide receiver Seth Newton came in motion and took a handoff from quarterback Zac Robinson. Instead of running around the right side, Newton lofted a 33-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Broadway to give OSU a 42-35 lead.

Newton played quarterback in high school at Girard, Kan., and had completed a pass each of the past two seasons at receiver.

"We've had that (play) in pretty much all year, even though we only ran it once this week," Newton said. "I was really comfortable with it. I saw Broadway and as soon as I let it go, I knew if he didn't lose it in the sun or anything, it was going to be a touchdown."

It was the first career TD pass for Newton and Broadway's first career TD reception.

Out of action: After losing two fumbles last week at Troy, Cowboy sophomore tailback Keith Toston did not play against Texas Tech.

Bumps and bruises: OSU's defensive performance was not helped by the loss of a few key performers.

Sophomore linebacker Chris Collins left the game in the first half with a foot injury. Collins did not play in the second half. Junior Marcus Brown replaced Collins at middle linebacker.

Sophomore strong safety Andre Sexton hobbled off the field with a leg injury after Danny Amendola's 41-yard TD reception early in the fourth quarter. Sexton was replaced by Quinton Moore.

Defensive tackles Jeray Chatham left with a leg injury in the second half, but returned to play. Quencey Patrick bruised his shoulder and did not return.

Sack man: Senior defensive end Nathan Peterson recorded his first two sacks of the season. Peterson now has 16.5 sacks for his career, which ties Juqua Thomas for seventh on OSU's all-time list.

Starting debuts: Newton and fellow wide receiver Dez Bryant and offensive guard Steve Denning made their first career starts Saturday.

Bryant had a 5-yard TD reception in the second quarter, the first of his college career.

Savage's numbers: Senior running back Dantrell Savage finished with 130 yards. It was his sixth 100-yard performance while at OSU. His first-quarter touchdown raised his career total to 10.
