The Picker: The good, bad and cheesiest of the pigskin
By The Picker

Check out the Picker’s Blog:
Here are the top 16 stories of the moment.
Here are some of the things that make this the best time of the year.
Tony Kornheiser.
You could pluck his kind out of any pub in the land.
What viewer hasn't thought: I know way more about football than he does.
College cornerbacks.
Their conversion from other positions has helped to revolutionize the college game.
It's why there are so many upsets.
Parity is: good quarterbacks throwing from the spread formation at short cornerbacks who played something like center in high school.
ESPN's GameDay.
No such thing on a college campus as too cheesy.
What college playoff?
Who would you invite this year, the top 24-1/2 teams?
Turnovers
.
Coaches say you can't win if you turn the ball over.
See Dallas / Buffalo result.
For a unique change of pace, after a turnover: MAKE A PLAY!
Image doesn't guarantee success.
Yankess, Texas Longhorns.
Last-second time-outs.
Great stuff -- kickers should have to make two to get three points.
Anticipate a time out, miss a kick on purpose, see how that plays.
Cowboy receiver Owens.
It's always pleasant to see a bigmouth drop everything.
Larry, Curly and Moe on local sports talk radio.
Who are they exactly?
We'll tell soon. The competition is intense.
The Picks
SATURDAY
Missouri at OU (-9):
Heaven on earth-substitute.
Both off huge wins, both are well ranked, both have superhero type strengths and nerve-wracking weaknesses, both could score 50; one has overconfident fans.
OU homers regard Missouri as quaint, a glorified Oklahoma State.
Nobody seems to trust the Missouri defense, including Missouri fans.
The Tigers have the best nonconference win, taking out one of Big Ten's finest (which might not be saying all that much), Illinois.
Sooners could be starting wrong runner.
OU 31, Missouri 27.
Oklahoma State at Nebraska (-3-1/2):
If Callahan's job is on the line, he had better hope it is not on the defensive line.
He could be trampled.
On Cox Pay Per View, get 60 or 70 people and go in together and it should be worth it.
Nebraska's Blackshirt defense is now a paisley tank top.
OSU is in the zone, all right, upper case: Zone, Twilight.
Nebraska by 6.
Marshall at TU (-14):
Marshall is considered the best 0-5 team in the country.
This is like saying Tulsa has one of the best defenses in the city.
Here's hoping the giveaway loss at UTEP isn't too costly in terms of seats.
Cheerleaders need to be ready with this chant: Timeout, timeout, timeout!
TU 40, Marshall 30.
Auburn at Arkansas (-2-1/2):
Ark out of the pass revolution loop, looks like the SEC version of the Aggies.
When it comes to the Heisman, won-loss records are made to be ignored -- McFadden has to be the best player in the country. It's not his fault the rest of the team is average.
Ark longs for Big 12, would be a contender there.
Ark by 3.
Purdue at Michigan (-5):
Big Ten owes the nation an apology.
Mich by 6.
Wisconsin at Penn State (-5-1/2):
JoePa reminisces about the time when Wisconsin was built.
State by 4.
LSU (-9-1/2) at Kentucky:
Is LSU the worst No. 1 in recent memory? Note how the question mark keeps irate fans at bay.
Has upset written all over it, LSU by 2 if at all.
The Aggies at Texas Tech (-8-1/2):
Leach does Aggie fans a great big favor.
Tech 49, Aggies 24.
Colorado at Kansas State (-5-1/2):
Lippy Colorado coach wonders if playing OU again would be such a good idea.
K-State by 10.
Central Florida at South Florida (-11-1/2):
South Florida is an Eastern Sports Promotional Network (ESPN) invention.
Belongs 19th.
SF by 10.
SUNDAY
Cincinnati at Kansas City (-1):
KC like watching paint crack.
Cincy by 4.
Minnie at Chicago (-7):
Alleged coach at Minnie using league's top runner Peterson to class up sideline.
Chicago by 9.
New England (-4) at Dallas:
Richochet Romo.
New England by 3.
Tennessee at Tampa (-2-1/2):
Winning stats for Young: 9-for-22 for 177 yards.
Tennessee by 3.
New Orleans at Seattle (-6-1/2):
Peyton place might not be as head coach.
First Sunday night clunker.
Reggie Bush owes the nation a few moves for a change.
Seattle by 10.
MONDAY
Giants (-3-1/2) at Atlanta:
Maybe the song intro needs to be changed to: Are you ready for some good football?
Pass the flipper.
Giants by 3.

Kornheiser has a mental retardation to sports. All he's cared about on TV lately are endzone celebration. Oh, he also makes fun of "Jaws." If Jaws wasn't such a pansy, he'd knock Kornheiser around a bit and give us something to remember from those god-awful Monday Night Football braodcasts.
I want Michaels and Madden back on Monday nights. He!! with Sunday night!

Picker: Wouldn't be surprised if Brady had a better stat line than Romo and Dallas won anyway. Two good offenses, one good defense, one potentially good defense, and two good special teams. Sounds back and forth to me. Buffalo's offense scored three points at home after getting six turnovers. I guess two TO's resulted straight to points, but my point is Dallas found a way to win with good defense on a night the offense was screwing it up. Hope for Dallas' sake they can find the same intenstinal fortitude on D this week. They'll need it.
Wade needs to move #31 to LB. SS just not working out. Getting recognition on name and ferocity of hitting. Gets beaten deep way too much. Loses coverage way too much. Misses open field shoulder tackles way too much. Let him play MLB and he can hit people all he wants w/o having to worry about coverages so much.

You call yourself the picker and yet you don't have the intestinal fortitude to post your record. My guess is that that's because your record is awful. These are the worst picks I've seen this year.

LSU, you gonna send The Picker threatening text messages like LSU "fans" sent Fla. QB?
Keep me posted... ;-)

I wish the picker did it the old way where he published his picks and then the fans were allowed to go in and make their picks. I have finished even with the picker 2 of 4 weeks. The old way you could guarantee that either you lost or you won. None of this even stuff.

I realize that football is the only sport on the planet but perhaps you might care to mention that over 1/2 of the Rockies roster played here. How about acknowledging that now, right now, is the best time of the year for being a sports fan, to wit: ALCS, NLCS, NCAAF, NFL, NHL, NBA, Premiership, etc.

Hey Bugle,
You are correct, great time of year for sports. Please don't ever mention Soccer again when speaking of sports........and what is this NHL you speak of? Is that the thing played on frozen water and found on the 8th tier of double digital cable......Channel 246754. I half expect to see Bill Land announcing NHL games soon, there is that much disinterest......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Lots of laughs T A&M pulls a Callahan & tries to burn the clock with exciting running plays, oh wait that is what they do anyway. They will be lucky to hold tech under 50. Also, A&M fans & the tech crowd have ahistory of rumbled in the stands. The best thing to watch might be the fights in the stands.

The ugliest #1 has to go to the Ohio St team that beat Miami. They were painful to watch.

Larry, Moe and Curly are pathetic. How Clear Channel keeps the Buzz around I have no idea. Pop has no biz being on the radio and who the heck is that other goon? Plank is a good #2 guy, and could be a better #1, but you are only as good as what (or who) you have to work with. If they treated it like a sports radio station instead of a high school frat, they could at least double their audience to 7 and a half.

Schemp,
Excellent call on the Buzz, complete amateur hour. If you listen closely, and who would, you can hear the clicking of the keyboard as they surf the net trying to find tidbits and crumbs to mumble, trying against all odds to sound well versed on any subject. Nickelodeon Light on Sports. “Hey Pop click click click, did you hear Florida State lost to Wake Forrest again?” click click click ”Why no, we talking football?” click click click I was in OKC last night at the Chili Peppers! click click click They get all the great concerts, because they built a big arena click click click.

Ohio St-miami was an amazing title game to watch though, remember it went to overtime. I think my ugliest number one had to be in the early 90's. Remember when we had two years of two teams sharing the title? Colorado-Georgia Tech in 91? Or who could forget Michigan-Nebraska in 97?

All I hear is him stumble through it and I wonder if he didnt have his little free magazine would they give him airtime?

Moe, Larry, and Curly. Can you say Traber, Eschbach, and Blevins? The 3 biggest OU homers ever. It's sooooo pathetic how Jim Traber just drools when Stoops or OU is mentioned. It's sad that you can tell that over the radio. He's going to be electrocuted one of these days. He may have went to OSU, but he didn't graduate. Besides, he's a Yankee.

LOL you guys are soooo right about the buzz. I hate listening to Plank name drop people its like he is soo starved for attention. And Chadwick? he is the worst always talking about playing in high school and being a backup at TU. Ive noticed that whenever he is on its always about Jenks or Union. What a douche!

OSUNDN...Not sure what planet you inhabit...Jim Traber is the biggest OSU homer in the state and Little Al seems too scared to stand up for OU and Blevins sometimes forgets where he graduated from!!! Get the facts straight. And yes...Traber does like Bob Stoops...unlike the Orange guy, he can keep his cool and doesn't belittle writers.

The BUZZ crew are professionals compared to HAXTON on the Animal.
He is so BRUTAL. He interupts anyone on the air with him.
I don't now how Bob Carpenter puts up with that clown. I guess Bob has too much class.
Haxton - you suck.
Quit interrupting.
Quit pimping blue chickens.
Quit thinkin' your stories are better than the other guy...
etc. and so on
HAXTON IS MOE, LARRY & CURLY ALL ROLLED INTO ONE....
