BIG 12 FOOTBALL MEDIA DAYS: OSU's Gundy offers his thoughts on several topics

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy met the media Tuesday in Kansas City. In his fourth season, Gundy hopes to help one of the worst defenses in college football catch up with a high-flying offense. He also wants to gain national recognition for something other than last year's postgame press-conference rant.

But of course, the first question from the press conference, which came from a media member based in Kansas City, was on that tirade.

Oklahoma State players who met the media were safety Ricky Price, quarterback Zac Robinson and linebacker Andre Sexton. Here were some of the topics during the Oklahoma State interviews:

• Gundy on his rant and the celebrity that's come with it: "I don't care much for the off-the-field issues and it's not something I contemplated. It was something that happened in a reaction and I felt it needed to be talked about from a head coach that should do the right thing for a player on his team. The only contemplation I had prior to the conference was if that was my son, what would I do. And Kristen (Gundy's wife) and I are lucky enough to have three sons. So I felt if that had happened to him, and I would want whoever was his coach to do that for one of those three."

• Gundy on Zac Robinson: "There were only two players from what I understand that rushed for over 800 yards and threw for over 2800, and the other one won the Heisman Trophy. I think that sums up the season he had statistically."

• Gundy on improving one of the worst defenses in the country: "We brought in some defensive linemen to give us some depth. Couple of linebackers to give us more speed at that position. Maurice Gray is a corner we brought in from the Kansas junior colleges. So we have more depth on the defense. We feel like we're a faster defense."

• Robinson on the offense: "This is my fourth year. Fourth year in this offense. And for a lot of these guys especially the offensive linemen they've been in the program a long time as well. I think we got a good nucleus of older guys."

Not only that! The "rant" also convieniently stole focus away from the obvious: Why was Reid starting in the first place?

What happened to the: "time in the system" excuse?
