Red-zone problems: Last season, Oklahoma State made 55 trips inside of the red zone (inside of the opponent's 20-yard line). On 17 of those possessions — nearly one-third of the time — the Cowboys failed to score a touchdown. They were consistent in their ability to drive the ball deep, but inconsistent in finishing with touchdowns.

During Saturday's 39-13 triumph over Washington State in Seattle, there were signs that OSU again could have red-zone struggles this season. During its first possession of the game, OSU drove to the Cougar 1-yard line but wound up with a field goal. Later, another possession stalled at the 3, and again Dan Bailey booted a field goal.

"Offensively, we were good but not great," coach Mike Gundy said after the Cowboys had 367 total yards.

Odds and ends: The Gundy-coached Cowboys now are 4-0 in neutral-site games and 10-3 overall in nonleague games. OSU is 7-9 against Pac-10 opponents.

Quarterback Zac Robinson and tight end Brandon Pettigrew achieved 1,000-yard milestones during the Washington State contest. Robinson now has 1,002 career rushing yards. Pettigrew has 1,021 career receiving yards.

In his first action since a July 2007 spinal injury, wide receiver Artrell Woods played Saturday. He was on the punt-return and kickoff-return units and was on the field for a handful of plays.

Woods did not get a reception.

The 30 mark: During the 2005 season (Gundy's first as head coach), the Cowboys reached the 30-point mark only twice and were beaten in each of those games (38-31 by Missouri and 44-34 by Baylor). But in 27 games since the start of the 2006 season, OSU has reached the 30-point mark 17 times. OSU, in its past eight games, averaged 37.4 points.

Robison-Bryant connection: Against Washington State, Robinson completed seven passes to Dez Bryant for a total of 90 yards. On four plays, Robinson lofted a high, soft pass, and the 6-foot-2 Bryant outjumped defenders for the football. It may look like a sandlot play, but receivers coach Trooper Taylor says Robinson and Bryant have forged timing and chemistry.

"It doesn't happen by accident," Taylor said. "(Bryant) and Zac work hard at it. It's just like a no-look alley-oop pass between basketball players. All that summer work has paid off."
