No regrets: Months ago, ESPN approached Oklahoma State with a proposal. The network wanted the Texas A&M-OSU football game for a prime-time Thursday telecast. The game was scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4. The network requested a move to Thursday, Oct. 2.

OSU officials discussed the pros and cons of such a switch, but coach Mike Gundy — concerned that a short week might adversely affect the Cowboys — decided to forfeit the television exposure and stay with the original schedule.

The 21st-ranked Cowboys (4-0) host the Aggies (2-2) in a nontelevised Big 12 opener at 6:05 p.m. Saturday.

"We as a staff knew we were going to play Troy (the week before), and there was going to be a lot of snaps in that game," Gundy explained this week. "And there was a lot of (consideration given) to local vendors. Is that more important than national exposure on a Thursday night? You have to weigh those options.

"I think the combination of all of those things probably said we'd better play on Saturday. You do what you think is best."

Clements recognized: Cowboy backup linebacker Seb Clements is one of 164 semifinalists for the Draddy Trophy, presented annually to the college football player deemed a model example of academic success, football success and community leadership.

Each of the 15 finalists will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship, while the Draddy winner gets a $25,000 scholarship.

The winner will be announced Dec. 9 in New York.

Clements is a senior from Sanger, Texas.

Run-game rotation: Through four games, OSU's running-back rotation has been extremely effective. Sophomore Kendall Hunter averages 20 attempts per game.

At 154.5 yards per game, he leads the Big 12 and ranks third nationally in rushing.

On only 10 carries per game, Keith Toston is the Big 12's No. 2 rusher at 92.0 yards per game.

The third back, junior-college transfer Beau Johnson, gets nine carries per game. His average of 63.0 yards ranks 11th in the conference.

"Kendall is a starter, and as long as he is fresh and feels good about himself, then he goes," Gundy said. "If he gets fatigued, we put (Toston) in. We have a luxury in that we're not concerned when we slide another guy in. Keith has played well to this point, and then Beau has given us some reps."
