OSU: 3 Storylines

A look at three things to watch in today’s Baylor-Oklahoma State contest.

Good vs. good on turnovers

In its past three games, the Oklahoma State defense has forced 11 turnovers. The Cowboys capitalized with six touchdowns. In its past four games, the Baylor offense has not committed a turnover. On 128 pass attempts, freshman quarterback Robert Griffin has not thrown an interception. The Bears have committed only six turnovers all season. OSU had three takeaways at Missouri. Can the Cowboys get three on Saturday?

Good vs. good in rushing

The Baylor-OSU game matches two of the better groundgame attacks in college football. The Cowboys (293.8 yards per game) are No. 4 nationally and No. 1 in the Big 12. Kendall Hunter, who should be viewed as an All-American candidate, leads the conference with a 143.7-yard average. Baylor counters with the league’s second-best rushing attack (206.2 yards per game). Both QBs — Griffin and OSU’s Zac Robinson — are outstanding ball carriers.

Sustaining focus

Fans and media are allowed to look ahead to next week’s OSU-Texas game in Austin, but the Cowboys would be foolish to glance beyond their date with Baylor. The Bears have become a well-coached, motivated, formidable opponent. If OSU takes care of business, the Texas game becomes one of more greatly anticipated games in Cowboy football history. But if the Cowboys stumble against Baylor, the potential of a dream season dissolves.
