Bryant befuddles the Bears

STILLWATER — Baylor cornerback Antareis Bryan stood little chance Saturday against Dez Bryant.

Bryan became just the latest defensive back to endure the difficulties of trying to cover Oklahoma State's standout wide receiver.

Bryant did whatever he pleased en route to another record-setting performance. The OSU standout had a career-best 11 receptions for 212 yards and two more touchdowns in the Cowboys' 34-6 victory over Baylor. Bryant bested Bryan on many of those 11 receptions. His hit list included:

Beating the Baylor CB on a pump-and-go route that resulted in a 37-yard TD in the second quarter.

Catching a 9-yard fade pass from Zac Robinson for a TD over Bryan.

Taking a short third-quarter pass and literally dragging Bryan on his back for an additional five yards.

If those were not bad enough, Bryan strained a quadriceps muscle attempting to tackle Bryant after a 37-yard fourth-quarter reception.

Bryant felt little sympathy.

"The only thing I care about is coming out with the W (win)," Bryant said. "My stats, I don't even think about that. If someone comes up and tells me them, I'll tell them 'That's great.' But the only thing I care about is the W."

The only thing that went against Bryant on Saturday was a block-in-the-back penalty by teammate Orie Lemon that nullified a 60-yard punt return for a TD.

His 212-yard effort was his second this season of more than 200 yards. It ranks as the sixth-best single-game receiving yardage performance in OSU history.

Bryant now has six games of more than 100 yards receiving, and those have all come in the Cowboys' past 11 games dating back to last season.

"Every week, the kid never ceases to amaze me," co-offensive coordinator/receivers coach Trooper Taylor said. "He's such a competitor. He wants the football. You see it in his body language. The other teams try to take him out, but he gets back up and (keeps) on going."

BY THE NUMBERS

A look at Dez Bryant’s 2008 statistics through seven games:

Receptions: 45. Yards: 809. TDs: 11 Punt returns-yards-TDs: 14-289-2
