Sign of the times: Oklahoma State's success a year ago landed the Cowgirls front and center at the Big 12 Women's Media Day. Some might have been overwhelmed. Not senior guard Taylor Hardeman.

"This is so cool," she said. "I've always dreamed of coming to (media days) and to have the response from the media is great. It's nice that our program is getting some recognition. We were so bad for so long and now everyone wants to be a Cowgirl. I'm glad we're earning everyone's respect."

Coach Kurt Budke also was pleased to see the media onslaught. "I think they are getting their due," Budke said. "Now, we have to stop talking about last year. We need to talk about this year or all we will have is looking forward to next year."

Andrea Riley was the only Cowgirl at last year's event and found this year quite different.

"It was kind of lonesome last year," she said. "We're glad to be getting some respect. I think we've earned it."

Ready for more: As a junior, Shaunte' Smith's main role was to rebound. This year the 6-foot forward is hopes to score.

"I love rebounding, it's my game," she said. "But I would like to improve on my scoring. We lost two good scorers and I want to help out."

Learning curve: Riley addressed her one-game NCAA tournament suspension: "I regret what happened and have apologized," she said. "I have a big passion for the game. I won't let it take away from my competitive nature but I have learned from it. My dad (Roosevelt Riley Jr.) told me to learn from it but not to let it take away my fiery approach to the game."
