Welcome return for OSU
Pettigrew brings leadership, blocking to Cowboys.

Pettigrew brings leadership, blocking to Cowboys.

Brandon Pettigrew's presence on the field last week was a welcomed addition for Oklahoma State.

After missing three games with a sprained ankle, the senior tight end returned to action last Saturday against Baylor and caught one pass for 22 yards.

The biggest impact from Pettigrew's return, though, is the leadership he provides to the Cowboys.

Prior to taking the field every game, it is Pettigrew who is yelling loudly to pump up his teammates.

"He is the one getting everyone fired up," quarterback Zac Robinson said. "But it's good to see him out there on the field.

"It's a reassuring to see 87 (Pettigrew) because he has so much experience."

Pettigrew's return gives Robinson another weapon in the passing game.

It also gives the Cowboys offense another key blocker. OSU coaches value Pettigrew for his blocking as much as his pass catching skills.

In Saturday's game at top-ranked Texas, Pettigrew is expected to help block Longhorn defensive ends Brian Orakpo and Henry Melton.

"I take a lot of pride in blocking," Pettigrew said.

"When they call my name to catch it, I'll do what I can. When it's time to block, I give 100 percent. Catching or blocking, I'll do whatever it takes to help."
