OSU Notebook

A second look: The final statistic sheet said one thing. The videotape review said another thing.

Texas was credited with five sacks of Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson in Saturday's 28-24 Longhorns victory over the Cowboys. The total matched the number allowed by OSU entering the game.

However, do not chalk up the sack total to a bad day by the offensive line protecting Robinson in passing situations.

OSU coach Mike Gundy said after watching the tape of the game Sunday morning that he counted only "two real sacks" of Robinson by the Longhorns. Three sacks were credited as Robinson was scrambling trying to run past the line of scrimmage.

The offensive line played as good as it has all year in the Texas game, according to Gundy.

"I don't know how they figure those things statistically, but there were two real sacks from a football coach's point of view in this game," Gundy said.

Fresh face: True freshman safety Victor Johnson saw considerable playing time in OSU's five defensive back alignment during the second half of Saturday's loss at Texas.

Johnson finished with three solo tackles, including one for lost yardage. The Waco, Texas, native also had a 52-yard kickoff return in the first quarter.

"I was fired up about his kickoff return," Gundy said. "He's maturing a little bit (on defense). He gets out there and flies around to the ball. He's fast, physical, tough, likes to tackle. He's making some strides. It just takes time."

Welcome home: Approximately 150 fans showed up at Stillwater Regional Airport on Saturday night to greet the Cowboys after they returned from Austin, Texas.

The gesture was not lost on Gundy or his players.

"There was quite a few people out there. Probably more than I've ever seen there," Gundy said. "I'm sure the players enjoyed it."

Recruiting update: Ada senior linebacker Colton Richardson gave a verbal commitment to play football at OSU, according to GoPokes.com. Richardson is OSU's sixth verbal commitment for the class of 2009. He joins Union running back Jeremy Smith and Owasso offensive lineman Brandon Webb as in-state commitments.

Verbal commitments are nonbinding. National signing day is Feb. 4, 2009.
