OSU women top OU, clinch Big 12

NORMAN — Oklahoma State claimed its first Big 12 Conference regular season championship Friday night with a 4-2 victory over Oklahoma at the OU Soccer Complex.

With the win, the No. 8 Cowgirls finish Big 12 play with a 7-1-2 mark and complete the regular season at 16-1-2 overall.

"It feels great for everybody associated with the program," OSU head coach Colin Carmichael said. "It's a testament to the kids who have been here in the past and helped us build the program, and the ability and the hard work of the current bunch of players.

OSU will be the No. 1 seed at next week's Big 12 Soccer Championship in San Antonio.

OU finished the regular season 3-15-1, 2-7-1 in league play.

In the ninth minute, Oklahoma's Jordan White scored the game's first goal on a pass from Ashley Farrand. The Cowgirls tied the score in the 25th minute as Kyndall Treadwell found the net from 25 yards out.

OSU took the lead with 7:39 left before intermission when Annika Niemeier scored on a penalty kick, but OU answered a short time later as Kelsey Kraft scored off a free kick.

OSU took the lead for good early in the second half when Siera Strawser delivered her 10th goal of the season. The Cowgirls' Melinda Mercado scored the game's final goal from point-blank range.
