Jimmy on OSU: Fox NFL analyst Jimmy Johnson OSU's head coach in 1979-83 said Oklahoma State might be the most overlooked team in the BCS standings.

When OSU coach Mike Gundy was informed that Johnson had mentioned the Cowboys, Gundy replied, "You know, I didn't even know he was still around. I wondered what had happened to him and why he never comes around here anymore.

"I'm not trying to be sarcastic. Obviously, the guy was a heck of a football coach. But I always wondered what he's doing now. It's nice of him to say that."

Series history: The eighth-ranked Cowboys face second-ranked Texas Tech on Saturday in Lubbock. For the first time, OSU and Texas Tech meet when each has a national ranking.

In each of the last six games of the OSU-Tech series, the home team has won.

A better decade: The Cowboys have recorded 57 victories during this decade. In 10 seasons during the '90s, they managed only 41 wins.

Defensive surge: Through the first four games of the season, the OSU defense totaled only 13 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. In the five games since, the Cowboys have recorded 37 such stops, with losses totaling 152 yards.

Facility countdown: In about six months, every aspect of the Cowboy football operation will be moved to the new $180 million west end zone structure at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Gundy says he has never toured the west-end construction site.

"Still to this day, I have not gone in there," he said. "I figure when it's done, it's done. I'm guessing it's going to be a lot better than anything we've ever had."

Reunion: The 1987 and 1988 Oklahoma State teams reunited last weekend in Stillwater. The most conspicuous no-shows were Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas.

Because of the demands of a game weekend, Gundy had only a few minutes to spend with his former teammates. He was the Cowboy quarterback in 1986-89.

"Most of them were just talking about how the other ones had gained a lot of weight and got gray hair," Gundy said. "That's the truth. That's really what went on."
