OSU: Report card

Offense: D

The only positive for OSU was a 112-yard rushing performance by Kendall Hunter. Otherwise, it was a bad outing. OSU managed only 368 total yards. On the fourth play of the second half, with the Cowboys trailing by only 14 points, tight end Brandon Pettigrew lost a fumble at midfield. If there was a most damaging moment for OSU, this was it. Texas Tech answered with a touchdown drive and took a 35-14 lead. Zac Robinson had a pass intercepted at the Red Raider 4-yard line. Dez Bryant did not have a catch until seven seconds remained in the first half, and he finished with only four. He entered as the national scoring leader with 17 touchdowns, but did not score against Texas Tech. A 15-yard clipping penalty by Cowboy guard Andrew Lewis effectively killed a first-half possession and led to a punt.

Defense: F

This was the Cowboys' worst defensive performance since last year's 49-17 Bedlam setback at Oklahoma. The Red Raiders had 629 total yards (7.9 per snap). Texas Tech had 80 offensive plays, but went to third down only nine times. And on those third-down plays, Tech got a first down on seven occasions. Tech quarterback Graham Harrell was 40-of-50 passing for 456 yards and six touchdowns. He drove the Red Raiders to a touchdown on seven consecutive possessions. Tech's backup QB, Taylor Potts, completed all five of his pass attempts.

Special teams: C

On six kickoff returns, OSU did not have a return of longer than 25 yards. OSU did not have a punt return, of course, because the Red Raiders did not punt. OSU allowed Tech's Eric Morris to get 17 yards on a punt return. On a rugby-style kick, OSU's Matt Fodge blasted a 71-yard punt that rolled dead at the Red Raider 3-yard line.
