Hunter semifinalist for award: Oklahoma State sophomore running back Kendall Hunter has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's top running back.

A list of three finalists will be released on Nov. 24.

The recipient is announced during the Dec. 11 Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on ESPN.

Hunter, who was not on the preseason Walker watch list, is one of four sophomores on the semifinalists list.

He is the only Big 12 running back among the remaining candidates.

Hunter is the nation's fourth-leading rusher at 133.2 yards per game (1,332 for the season).

He is averaging 6.7 yards per carry and has rushed for 13 touchdowns.

Hunter has rushed for at least 100 yards eight times this season and leads the Big 12 in rushing by 53 yards per game.

Hunter is the third Cowboy to have been named to a national award semifinalist list, joining quarterback Zac Robinson (Davey O'Brien) and punter Matt Fodge (Ray Guy).

Turning back the clock: Remember when OSU coach Mike Gundy said after an August 2005 closed scrimmage that there was an "interesting twist" involving the Cowboys' quarterback position? Many thought Gundy had distinguished a clear-cut starter.

He did. But it wasn't either of the then-contenders, Donovan Woods or Bobby Reid.

It was Robinson, who was merely an 18-year-old freshman who had a little more than two weeks of practice.

"I was going to name him the starter," Gundy said Monday.

"I had a gut feeling on the kid, because he did some things in practice that you don't coach."

Gundy was talked out of his idea by then-offensive coordinator Larry Fedora.

But Robinson, who was named the starter two games into the 2007 season, has rewarded his coach's faith.

The junior is second on OSU's career total offense list with 6,781 yards.

Robinson possibly could surpass Gundy's school record of 7,749 by season's end.

Big kick opportunity: Fodge recorded a season-best 71-yard punt last week at Texas Tech.

The kick was 1 yard shy of his career-best punt of 72 yards set in 2006.

The OSU senior punter is interested to see if he can establish a new career-best mark Saturday in the high altitude at Colorado.

"I'm looking forward to that. I've never played in the high altitude," Fodge said. "I'm going to be anxious to see how far the ball does travel."

Repeat the feat: OSU is seeking only its second-ever 3-0 mark against Big 12 North Division competition.

The only time the Cowboys swept all three North Division foes was 2004 when they won at Colorado and Missouri and beat Iowa State in Stillwater.
