OSU Basketball Notebook
By JIMMIE TRAMEL, World sports writer

Launching a regime:
Oklahoma State opened the Travis Ford Era with a victory over Texas-San Antonio.
The Cowboys improved to 9-9 all-time in a new head coach's debut.
The last Cowboy head coach to lose a season opener was Leonard Hamilton, who lost his first game (a road game at Pepperdine) in 1986.
Important visitor:
Among the 5,728 fans in attendance was UTSA athletic director Lynn Hickey, a native of Welch, Okla.
Hickey is in her second year as a member of the committee that selects and seeds teams for the NCAA Tournament.
Paid attendance was 9,733.
Moving up:
Already OSU's career steals leader, Byron Eaton moved into 12th place on the Big 12 career steals list.
He got four steals against UTSA, pushing his career total to 194. Third on the OSU career steals list is Brooks Thompson, who is UTSA's head coach. Thompson accumulated 169 steals despite playing only two years with the Cowboys.
Asked what Eaton needs to do in his final season to be considered a great Cowboy guard, Thompson didn't want anything he said to be construed as critical or negative "because it's not my job to do that." But Thompson said Eaton is a tremendous talent who needs to show more consistency.
Ball control:
OSU committed just seven turnovers, fewest by a Cowboy squad since making five turnovers in a March 12, 2005, Big 12 Tournament game against Kansas.
Threefeat:
OSU extended its school record of consecutive
games with at least one 3-pointer.
The Cowboys have made a 3-pointer in 252 straight games.
The last time the Pokes failed to make a 3-pointer was against Iowa State on Jan. 8, 2001.
