What happened to Eaton's mojo?

Maybe Byron Eaton will have the right stuff on the left coast.

Oklahoma State’s senior point guard lost his mojo on the east coast. He shot 7-of-38 from the field and had 13 turnovers as the Cowboys went 1-2 in an Orlando-area Thanksgiving tournament.

Teammate Terrell Harris said Eaton is too good to stay in a funk.

“We just had to get him out of Florida, man. That’s all,” Harris said. “I don’t know what (the problem) was. I guess it was the turkey or something. Mickey Mouse scared him or something. I don’t know what it was. He’s going to be all right.”

Eaton will try to get back in a groove when OSU treks to Seattle for a Thursday game against Washington in the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series.

Eaton was asked to grade his Florida performances on a scale of 1-to-5. He gave himself a negative-2.

“I don’t know what it was basically about my shot down there,” he said. “If I played half decent, I think we would do a lot better than 1-2.”

Both losses came against top 10 teams (Gonzaga and Michigan State). OSU led the Zags with six minutes left even though Eaton finished 2-of-15 from the field and 1-of-7 at the free throw line.

Because Eaton played three games in four days, he didn’t have time to regroup, according to coach Travis Ford.

“It just kind of snowballed on him,” Ford said. “But we know he is going to be better than that.”

Eaton excels at drawing fouls on drives to the basket, but he didn’t get as many calls as he wanted in Florida. Favorable whistles might have provided a confidence boost, according to Ford, who isn’t worried about Eaton’s slump.

Said the coach, “Now if it is still happening next week or a couple of more games, yes. But he will be fine.”
