The hiring of the OSU assistant is expected to be announced Thursday.

Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Tim Beckman is expected to be introduced as the University of Toledo's new head football coach on Thursday, the Tulsa World has learned.

A press conference is scheduled for noon Central time in Toledo, Ohio.

A source confirmed to the Toledo Blade newspaper that the 43-year-old Beckman, who has coordinated the OSU defense for two seasons, was selected to lead the Rockets' program.

Attempts to contact Beckman and Cowboy head coach Mike Gundy were unsuccessful.

It is not known whether Beckman would make an immediate move to Toledo or remain with the 14th-ranked Cowboys (9-3 overall, 5-3 Big 12) through their bowl game. On Sunday, OSU will learn its bowl destination.

It is believed that Rocky Long, who recently resigned as New Mexico's head coach, could be viewed as a candidate for OSU's defensive coordinator position. The 58-year-old Long is nationally renowned as an outstanding defensive coach.

Beckman, a native of Berea, Ohio, has a history in Toledo's conference the Mid-American Conference. As Bowling Green's defensive coordinator in 1998-2004, he was a three-time nominee for the Broyles Award, given annually to the top assistant coach in college football.

In 2001 and 2002, Beckman's head coach at Bowling Green was Urban Meyer, now the head man at Florida.

Beckman coached Ohio State cornerbacks in 2005 and 2006. He joined Gundy's OSU staff in January 2007. At OSU, Beckman was paid $303,000 a year and was under contract through the 2009 season.

By the end of the 2007 season, OSU was 101st nationally in total defense and 56th against the run. This season, in spite of a national ranking of No. 85 in total defense, the Cowboys have shown signs of progress. OSU is No. 30 nationally against the run.

In a 28-23 road conquest of Missouri, then undefeated and ranked No. 3, OSU pressured quarterback Chase Daniel into three interceptions. OSU limited Mizzou to 64 rushing yards.

The Toledo job became vacant when Tom Amstutz resigned after eight seasons. The Rockets went 3-9 overall and 2-6 in the MAC this season.

Brent Guy, former Ok State LB, got fired as Utah State's head coach. He might make a good one too but how about Pat Jones, ya never know, he might be persuaded to make a comeback?!

Toledo does realize he is the "defensive" coordinator and not the "offensive" coordinator right?
