Sales brisk for OSU's bowl
Athletic director says he is pleased with fans' response to Holiday Bowl.

In spite of the economic slump and the Christmas stress on family budgets, Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder reports that fans have enthusiastically responded to the Cowboys' involvement in the Holiday Bowl at San Diego.

OSU, with a 9-3 record and a No. 13 ranking in the Associated Press Top 25, faces 15th-ranked Oregon in the Dec. 30 contest at Qualcomm Stadium. The Ducks also are 9-3, having finished second in the Pac-10.

Holder says ticket sales have been brisk. "Given the state of the economy, we're pleased with the response," he said. "We're pleased with the number of fans we're taking to San Diego."

Asked how many OSU fans might attend the Holiday Bowl, Holder would not offer a prediction. He did indicate that more than 1,000 rooms at a San Diego-area hotel have been reserved by Cowboy fans and members of the OSU support staff.

An estimated 10,000 OSU fans were in Tempe, Ariz., for last season's Insight Bowl (a 49-33 Cowboy victory).

Turnout has been better for bowls nearer to Oklahoma. During the 2006 Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La., 18,000 OSU fans watched the Cowboys beat Alabama.

For each of the Cowboys' three recent trips to Texas bowls — the Houston Bowl in 2002, the Cotton Bowl following the 2003 season, and the 2004 Alamo Bowl — there was an Oklahoma State presence of more than 30,000 fans.

I lived in San Diego for 5 years and had been to two Holiday Bowls. It's a great place for a team to go during the winter. Good luck OSU and wish I was there to support!!

I live in Oregon and always get my OSU colors confused with Oregon State. I cannot wait to beat UO and rub it into my Duck friends! I am so going to the game as I was at the last Holiday bowl game we were at and watched Sanders, Gundy and Dykes rack up the yards!

I'll be there as well with my cowboys/harley orange. I'm going to haul my bike out there as well to "poke" around San Diego a bit. Go Cowboys!!!! "Being a fan is more than purchasing a sweatshirt in a team color, only to toss it in the trash on the way to your car if you come up on the short end of the stick. There is a degree of self-actualization which envelops you as a Cowboy fan. It is above wins and losses." Borrowed from an issue of "THE POSSE"
