Six pack: Six Oklahoma State players scored in double figures, Marshall Moses almost became the seventh. The sophomore forward played only 10 second-half minutes, but he scored eight points and finished one shy of a career-high in a 30-point victory over Mercer.

Moses played only 14 minutes in the Cowboys' previous five games and didn't leave the bench in two of them. Travis Ford said Moses made the most of his minutes Wednesday and may have shown that he merits a chance for more playing time.

Opening night: Freshman center Teeng Akol made his first appearance of the season and scored the first time he touched the ball. Akol, only recently declared eligible, played the last 5:33 and had two points, two rebounds and a steal.

Game time: Two OSU students who survived a preseason walk-on tryout got court time. Garrett Thomas, playing in his second game, made appearances in both halves. Blaine Booher made his OSU debut with 1:24 left and became the first of the tryout survivors to score when he made the final basket with less than a second remaining.

"Those walk-ons work their butts off every day," Ford said, detailing the grunt work they do in practices.

Scott Warner, a holdover walk-on from the Sean Sutton regime, also got court time.
