Picker disavows Wolverine love

From the Picker Blog: We haven't seen OU considered to be so loaded since the USC game. We have one word of caution: Texas.

Quizzes and assumptions.

Q: Did you really pick Michigan to win the national championship?

A: Heavens no.

Picking is where you know which teams are playing.

Guessing is where you pick two names out of the phone book.

You never saw Michigan picked in this space.

In another segment of the paper, in a special sports magazine section or some such publication, we were asked to guess at a national title game and turned over that assignment to our neighbor, dear, sweet Betty, who had a Michigan connection; thus the guess. Please, no insults, she's sensitive.

Q: What is your opinion of media people who are paid by the schools they cover?

A: We think they are geniuses.

Q: Has there ever been a time when the OU bandwagon had so many passengers?

A: Somebody said it was this heavy right before the USC game.

Q: Can you think of a single reason why OSU coach Gundy is reluctant to change quarterbacks? The natives are restless.

A: Possibly because by changing quarterbacks so soon, the coach would be admitting a mistake. And there's only one native who matters, Boone Pickens.

Q: Did you hear about the shots OU's Dean Blevins took at you?

A: Since Dean-O quit announcing those outback-type college games with the woman who wouldn't quit talking, we haven't followed his career all that closely.

We hear that one of his favorite teams is in fact the Sooners and that he has numerous inside stories about them.

Q: Who exactly does the Picks anyway?

A: Many bits are the consensus of thoughts of respected people from around the world. They are done anonymously so that others more deserving can bask in glory from adoring readers.

Q: What is your favorite part of sports talk radio?

A: Oh, probably the repetitiveness. It can be relaxing, knowing what's coming next.

Q: Are you serious?

A: Sometimes, sure.

The Picks

FRIDAY

Oklahoma State (-10) at Troy: Could the lack of quarterback controversy lead to a coaching controversy?

Cowboys muscle into high school time here.

Troy can light it up on offense, but couldn't put out a sparkler -- plays defense like Helen of Troy.

Anybody notice that mighty Georgia didn't score a touchdown against Spurrier?

O-State by 8.

SATURDAY

Whotah State at OU (-47): Having hit this year's first Lock of the Millennium, which was the decade's third Lock of the Millenium, with the OU to rout Miami pick, we are considering this year's second Lock of the Millenium, Texas plus some points in the OU game.

So many people are on the OU bandwagon that there's not enough air, and people are a bit light-headed with bliss.

Bad news, Texas can run and play.

Were TCU and Miami to suit up and compete, we'd take TCU; and TCU couldn't get back to the line of scrimmage versus Tex.

Granted, quarterback McCoy appears somewhat wobbly.

But the OU-Texas game is anybody's.

Never heard of Whotah State, sorry.

OU by 45.

BYU (-7) at TU: This one is teed up in the rough for TU from an emotional perspective -- BYU drags itself in after close call in Loopyland versus UCLA.

BYU has gone legit, stressing cougar-like defenders over offense.

Must have a full house for this excellent game or the city will get a demerit.

Upset, TU by 2.

Arkansas at Alabama (-3-1/2): It's not true that nobody likes Saban.

Those who wager on him where wagering is legal love the man.

Eleven-man line could give Ark pass game pause.

McFadden leads Heisman after two.

Tide cleans Hogs.

Ark by 6.

Tennessee at Florida (-8): Fulmer glad there's a used Carr around.

Florida by 6.

Notre Dame at Michigan (-9): New England quarterback Brady is even better than anybody imagined.

Why?

The Notre Dame man used to coach him!

Michigan by 1.

Ohio State (-3-1/2) at Washington: Wash coach was fired from Notre Dame. Now his exit could be considered something like the sequel to the shock movie "Escape from New York."

Washington by 4.

Louisville (-6) at Kentucky: Team that dribbles most here loses.

Louisville by 10.

USC (-10) at Nebraska: Expect numerous powers like USC, LSU, to have one loss.

Looks too easy: USC by 13.

BC at Georgia Tech (-7): Tech beat Notre Dame something like 50-0.

How weak.

BC by 3.

Pros

SUNDAY

Indy (-7) at Tennessee: Manning is in more commercials than a politician.

Indy by 4.

Houston at Carolina (-6-1/2): Hard to tell much about Houston, coming off KC walk-over.

Carolina by 7.

Dallas (-3) at Miami: Why not make Roy Williams a linebacker?

Seriously. He can run. He can hit. He's fearless. He just can't cover a small hill of beans.

Miami by 2.

KC at Chicago (-12-1/2): Rugby.

Chicago by 14.

San Diego at New England (-4-1/2): Sunday night has replaced Monday night as the place to be for the NFL's best. NE coach probably has cut the loose threads of his sweats for home opener.

NE by 3.

Monday

Washington at the Eagles (-6-1/2): Read a book, listen out of the corner of an ear for sporadic excitement.

Eagles by 7.

How do I get to the Outpick the picker selection page?

Dean only knows OU and those that affect OU. I once suggested he run a little analysis on TU, since he supposedly covers Tulsa on his state-wide TV show and his state-wide radio show. He simply said it was an interesting idea.

The better question this week will be if the picker will stay true to his picks.

Last week he flip-flopped between Thursday and Saturday on the SC-GA game and on whether a couple of teams would cover.

Wow how quickly Sooner fans lets dreams of dominance dance in their heads! Listen you guys have a good team that is somehow ranked third after you've beaten the #101 rank North Texas squad, the #45 Miami, Fl crew, and now you're getting ready to play the #117th team out of 119 I-A schools in Utah State! Strength of schedule is a must in the Big 12 I take it!! Then again LSU plays Middle Tenn State and Louisiana Tech so I guess most conference do it too! Although Nebraska played Nevada, a contender in the WAC, at Wake Forest, the ACC champ last year, and now they host USC, the number 1 team in the country! Throw in games against Texas, Texas A&M and Missouri and the strength of schdule is pretty high. Trouble is they need to win a few of them!! OU fan calm down until you play a few road games because the creampuffs at home only means that you can beat down lower ranked teams in front of your rabid fans! My prediction is OU will lose 2 games and go to the Sugar Bowl, but next year....they will be dangerous!! P.S. Im not an OU fan but Sam Bradford..Heisman in 2008??? Looks like a lock!

Sure, Mark P. Head out of Tulsa on the ole' Cimmaron Turnpike and exit at Stillwater. Look for a guy named PokenMike near the exit. He'll have a "Will Work For Teeth" sign and wearing tattered orange rugby jersey that looks as though he should be sitting next to Mr. Sulu. He'll have all the info you need.

Chicago Ben: That's a good point, thanks. Most of the time, I don't even look at the box that runs in sports Saturday; neighbor Betty sometimes picks those for me. But it is confusing, so from now on, they will match with the contest picks in here on Thursday. Thanks for the correction suggestion.

Dear Spiro Gyro: That's real smart, taunt somebody trying to win you a big-screen.

Predictable move by the Predictable Picker: Attempts to gloss over his buffoon pick of the century - tabbing Michigan as national champ. And says he hasn't followed Blevins' career? Really, and yet he knows enough to take cheap shots at Blevins every week. Props to Blevins for refusing to take it any longer and revealing your real name.

World Picker, (9/13/2007 4:10:45 PM)

Cheap shot? Dean doesn't like OU a lot?

New picks: OU 35, Texas 5.

OU 42, LSU 11.

How's that?

So what's the bottom line, Watchdog, you're opposed to having fun?

Oh, and then there was this about who does the picks: "They are done anonymously so that others more deserving can bask in glory from adorning readers." What a crock. They are done anonymously because your skin is too think and your lack of guts won't allow you to practice real journalism and put your name on your articles. You are a disgrace to journalism.

Okay picker, it's time to correct your picks for the week.

OU by 45 is conservative

TU by ? Wake up BYU by 13

ARK by 6? Go with your head, not your heart! Bama by 8

Florida by 6 is reasonable

Michigan by 1, okay, but who cares!

Waashington by 4, Somebody finally agres with me!

Louisville by 10, won't happen, this is upset #2, Kentucky by 4

USC by 13, Hmmm . . . This will be much closer but unfortunately USC escapes in a win

and last, BC by 3 ? Nuttin doin here, GTech by 6.

Mark my words and use my picks if you're wagering money this week!

As for the upcoming Red River Rivalry, this one has been circled for 2 years now. Granted, Texas is a talented team and definitely a top 10 team. But, attrition has taken it's toll with graduation, injuries, and let's not overlook sentencing at Convict U. This will be one of those games to remember and will be very entertaining. However, once BEVO is put back to pasture and the cow dung is cleard, the final score will be OU 34 - UT 20.

Make your reservations now for the Championship Game, LSU vs OU

Wow what a typical OU fan looking thru crimson hued glasses!! Convict U? I thought that was in Norman at the Barry Switzer Correctional facility....oh yeah you forgot of the cover of Sports Illustrated with Charles Thompson in an Orange jumpsuit and then Barry had to quit because of all the chaos! You'd think they would learn at OU, but then again with an athletic graduation rate of 32% well you know where im going with that, we see the boys at it again! First we had Dvorchek a few years ago beating a pint sized "friend" of his to a pulp and then Bomar car dealership follies! Yet for some reason cOnvit U players dont get it so this year we have a valued student athlete stealing gas with a card that was given to him....not cash which is hard to trace but a credit card!! Wow they have all the brains down there, and the funny thing is Im not a Texas or OSU fan! OU is a good team this year but they wont win the title...they will lose two games and will go to the Sugar Bowl where they will trounce Florida 35-14! Sooner fan you can hate what I said but I am just listing facts of your criminal past which most schools in the south do have. Look on the brightside, you arent losing to Applachian State!! By the way USC 24 NEB 14...OSU in a shootout 38-35 and BYU 37 TU 17 sorry Malzahn BYU and OU defenses will destroy your sandlot offense....oh yeah and #3 OU 77 #117 Utah St 3.....look it up they are ranked 117th out of 119 teams, strength of schdule will catch up with OU in terms of the BCS.

That's rich: "The Picker" is questioning someone for not using a real name? One big, big difference: You're supposed to a journalist, I'm not. Yeah, go back to some of that "real" journalism you've repeated for the past two decades writing about your dogs and you garden. Now there's hard-hitting journalism.

Being a big Wolverine fan, I'd like to say we need a new coach. The biggest ball game of the season is the Michigan-Ohio game Nov. 17th and Lloyd Carr's record aganist Tressel's OSU Buckeyes is not good. Lloyd Carrs record at bowl games is also not good. I'm hoping against hope that the Wolverines can still beat the Buckeyes!
