The Picker: For talking heads, truth most likely inconvenient

Check out the Picker’s Blog: "Here are the top 15 stories of the week/weekend. 15. Poll voters are an embarrassment."

Local sports talk radio host on truth serum ...

With all this time to fill, it's incite, or else come up with an outrageous opinion, or hit the pavement.

Here's the toughest thing about this job -- all the dopey callers.

You should see some of the stuff we do behind the scenes when one of the losers calls in.

And there's no balance here -- if somebody disagrees, I'll start yelling, and if that doesn't work, I'll call him or her an idiot and hang up. Who knows, maybe this gig will lead to the big time.

I sure hope that Picker person doesn't bring up many of the things we've predicted so far this season.

Local TV sports anchor on truth serum.

There's no time.

A robot could do this job.

Weather jokers go long, run some scores, speed through some clips.

Throw it back to news.

Talk fast.

Good thing about my other job.

National TV sports anchor on truth serum.

Ask average viewers what they think of my loud and cornball manner?

Are you out of your mind?

We nerdy national anchors hang around together and have no idea how lousy we really are.

National TV sports analyst on truth serum.

I don't know much of anything.

A friend was in charge of hiring.

The Picks

THURSDAY

South Florida (-2-1/2) at Rutgers: Expect to see guys in full-length raccoons, women in pleats.

ESPN to hyperventilate all night over eastern rise.

Rutgers upset could penalize conference.

First and maybe last upset of the week, Rutgers by 4.

Saturday

OU (-29) at Iowa State: Choosing to put this on TV over K-State-OSU shows what Fox Sports has become, an afterthought.

Stoops says he's not all that upset with field goal kicking.

Surely he meant: this week.

One might think poll importance would encourage lack of sportsmanship, piling on the points.

OU by 35.

Tulsa at Central Florida (-3): Would like to see a pedometer on quarterback Smith, he must roll out and scramble 10 miles per game.

Have to look at TU's defense this way: comparatively.

Everybody's is bad.

CF by 6.

Kansas State at Oklahoma State (-3-1/2): Not even on pay-per-view.

Gundy should go into his screaming mode about a lack of attention.

Have to hand it to the coach -- his 4-3 team has collected more ink than anybody's.

With this quarterback healthy all the way, O-State could have been a one-loss team nearing the top 10.

The offense is the best in the conference.

Never know how a team will come back from an off week (Nebraska).

Great game for attendees.

OSU by 3.

Arkansas (-6) at Mississippi: Nutt has to be walking on shells.

Lack of pass game has Ark stuck in past with Aggies.

McFadden has probably been hit more times than the Razorback Web site.

Ark by 1.

Kansas (-4-1/2) at Colorado: Two involved with season's biggest how-did's clash here.

How did Kansas win at Kansas State?

How did Colorado beat OU?

Upset, Colorado by 2.

Aggies at Nebraska (-2-1/2): Coaching clinic of sorts.

These teams are sick.

If both go bowling, expect them to travel light.

Aggies by 3.

Texas Tech at Missouri (-3-1/2): OU-Mo rematch sounds electric.

Each team's defensive strategy here: All right, men, let's go out there and stop them every once in a while.

Missouri by 6.

Florida (-7) at Kentucky: One miracle per customer.

Florida by 6.

Auburn at LSU (-10): Frequent runner Miles is up to his old tricks, coaches bad, snaps at media.

Double figures a stretch for Auburn.

LSU by 20.

SUNDAY

Arizona at Washington (-3): Both play hard for first round playoff humiliation.

Wash by 6.

Minnie at Dallas (-10): Something of a rarity: Two OU stars lead pro teams.

Peterson has been too fast to be hit hard so far.

Roy Williams has redefined the safety position. He keeps everything behind him.

Dallas by 13.

KC at the Raiders (-3): KC flop-flips more than a politician.

Oakland by 7.

Bears at the Eagles (-5): After 25 or so years with no offensive help, the Bears defense is about to give out.

Eagles by 3.

Steelers (-3-1/2) at Denver: Ugly Betty probably cheers for Steelers.

Not only do they win ugly, they make homely first downs.

Steelers by 2.

MONDAY

Indy (-2) at Jacksonville: Tony Can of Kornheiser aside, best Monday so far.

Usually it's West teams nobody has heard of, here's it Jax.

Indy by 4.

Note: Ricky Martin just earned a star on the Walk of Fame. Somebody do something.

The local talk radio/sports anchor/newspaper guys (I guess one job doesn't pay enough) have picked the college games the same as you. Their picks have been around for days.

Let's see, they pick first, you pick a few days later, the picks are the same.Let's see.............. Hey, you really did cover yourself on that LSU pick.

The National TV sports analyst he's writing about must be Skip Bayless. That guy is the biggest idiot, by far, commenting on sports today.

I think the picker needs to be drug tested. he made this statement about the Aggies.

If both go bowling, expect them to travel light.

Aggies by 3.

Didn't the Aggies beat the cowboys?

OK, we get it. You don't like local radio or tv sports media people. You also don't like national sports media people. The act is getting a little tired. It might be more interesting if you'd name names and put your money where your mouth is.

Please find something else to gripe about. It's getting old.

Hey Demarco you just worry about classes and games.....LOL a sooner athlete worrying about going to class? I know I know, I should be nicer to the atlete-students at OU but it such an easy swipe. By the way Im not an OSU fan I just saw the chance to swipe. Anyway I think OU wins by 42, OSU by 6, and TU plays just like they did at UTEP but we save a timeout and kick the WINNING field goal for once!!! Future Pick Texas Tech 34 OU 31...the red raiders will lunge in the endzone on the last play of the game.....hmmmm that sounds familiar!

I agree the OSU game will be a good one & should be televised, but maybe OSU should sell out there stadium before they start complaining about TV coverage. Just looked and there are plenty of seats available for the game.

Coach Sampson, (10/18/2007 10:32:07 AM)
Of course I loved coaching at OU all the phone calls I could make to recruits, my players always keeping our team GPA to big 12 league minimum....well actaully a 9% graduation rate doesnt happen over night!! Oh and we could never win the big one I mean we got close but that final 4 was a fluke because we were more competitive in losses to Manahattan and those other first round defeats we had. Oh well those were great days but I have to go and screw up Indiana's tradition.

Paddy, (10/18/2007 10:35:30 AM)
You're right Kevin but how could OSU sell out their home games this season? With prices as high as they are and lets admit not the best home schedule so far? Would you pay 100 a ticket to watch the Pokes play Florida Atlantic or Sam Houston State? I could maybe understand paying that money for Texas Tech but not the first two. Now with home games against Texas and undefeated Kansas they could have some sellouts but not for the first two.

OSU can't sell out their games because of the high ticket prices. If I take my family of 4 for $100 a ticket. Plus gas money, plus lunch and everything else I'm spending in excess of 500 bucks. I'm an OSU alum and would love to go to these games, but I don't have $500 to blow. Holder needs to lower the ticket prices to that the average alum can afford to go to the games, not just the wealthy fans. Holder has the single ticket prices as high or higher than the season ticket prices because he doesn't want to alienate the season ticket holders. Look at the stadium. They never sell out. You can't charge top dollar for tickets to watch a mediocre team.

Wow Demarco it took you an hour for a comeback? Hmmm not bright but then again has there ever been an OU tailback to be able to get through an interview with the press without the following comments: "um" or "you know what im sayin"? I know I know maybe im being harsh but keep in mind you are one knee injury away from changing oil at wal-mart. That is unless, LOL, you are going to get your degree!!

Demarco, Brian Bozworth just called and asked if he could be the greeter at the wal mart you will soon be working at. That is unless he can make Stone Cold 2: Out of Work.

Oh and Coach Stoops please invite me back to something so i can feel relevant again! Texas Tech will hanf half a hundred on those boys!! Wait I mean OU....nurse i need more of my pills

OSU plays for bowl games

OU plays for National Championships.

Hey Demarco dont let Sundevils comments bum you out...I'd rather you change my oil at walmart than some OSU cat. Atleast I'd know you'd be smart enough to actually put oil in it.

The ratings should be about 95-5 football in Oklahoma, as a Rutgers win would move OU to fourth. Football early, baseball late. Batteries for the flipper.

JJ, Wichita Falls (10/18/2007 6:18:08 PM)
The thing is OSU tickets are overpriced. I have had OU season tickets 17 years (incl the student years). Even when OU sucked the tickets were not as high as OSU's current. I agree with# 19 & # 15. If your OSU degree was worth it you could afford it. That said your weekend for 4 in Stillwater costs about the same as my entire season tickets for 3.
