Can Sooners finally put on a road show? 9/13/2008 11:23:36 AM
SEATTLE -- Let's be clear about something. This isn't "just another game" Oklahoma is playing tonight at Washington. It's not "the biggest game on our schedule because it's the next game on our schedule," either.
This could simply be the most critical September game the Sooners have played under Bob Stoops, never mind the 20-point spread or Washington's 11-27 record under embattled coach Ty Willingham.
It's apparent to everyone OU has become a softer, sillier team away from Owen Field the last few years, as capable of losing leads as losing footballs. Today presents a platinum opportunity to reverse that course, and it's on the minds of those who haven't even been around for the recent woes.
"All summer, all preseason we've been preaching, 'We've gotta win on the road,'" freshman linebacker Travis Lewis said. "If we want to achieve the goals we have set for ourselves, we have to."
"It's huge," said first-year wide receivers coach Jay Norvell. "Everybody's gunning for Oklahoma, and to play on the road in their stadium, they're going to be cranked up, and their fans will be, it's important for us.
"We have goals this year to play well and win on the road, so this is our first step in that."
