Baseball screwing up Sooners-Canes
10/27/2008 9:32:20 AM

I've always believed they should stop the Major League Baseball season at the end of August, not September. When football rolls around, no one gives a rip about the national past-its-time, so why bother?

Well, now may be time to wage an actual campaign. Here's proof, courtesy of the Miami Herald:

"Dolphin Stadium informed UM that it must reschedule next season's Sept. 12 game against Oklahoma because the Marlins are booked for a home series that weekend."

The Marlins will be 67 games out of first place Sept. 12. They'll have about 67 fans at the game that day. They use a stadium named for a football team. And yet they're threatening one of the biggest non-conference college games on the 2009 schedule?

"Athletic director Kirby Hocutt expects to find another '09 date for the Sooners," the Herald reported, "but said UM might have to move its Oct. 3 game at UCF."

Just because the Hurricanes are willing to postpone the OU game three weeks, the Sooners might not be. Oct. 3 is one week before the Big 12 opener against Baylor, two weeks before that little get-together in the Cotton Bowl. That might be too close for Bob Stoops' comfort.

Anyhow, stay tuned. Maybe we'll get lucky and the Marlins will fold between now and then.
