Osborne believes OU's saving grace is Owen Field
11/17/2008 8:06:00 AM

By the end of the week, Pope Benedict XVI will have made an Oklahoma-Texas Tech pick (I'm guessing it will be the Sooners and the points, given the Stoops family's Catholic loyalities).

For now, we'll stick to guys inside college football. Or who were inside, anyway, before retirement called. Here are predictions courtesy of the Sporting News' "Legends Poll."

Tom Osborne: ""It's a toss-up. If the game was in Lubbock, I'd go with Texas Tech for sure. Texas Tech's defense is playing better than in past years and has even improved during this season. I believe it will be a very close game with the deciding factor possibly being a turnover."

Pat Dye: "Texas Tech. Playing in Norman will be a big advantage for Oklahoma, and Oklahoma will score. This will be a true test for Texas Tech, but nobody has stopped them yet, so I'm picking Texas Tech."

Dick MacPherson: "I like Oklahoma because they can do it all. Like Texas, they have the personnel that will match up well with Texas Tech. The Oklahoma offense can grind it out and hold onto the ball, which keeps Texas Tech's potent offense off the field."

If MacPherson was in the know, he wouldn't state that Oklahoma would grind it out at all. They have scored on drives less that 2 minutes all year. So, unless they change their offensive philosophy for this game, I doubt they will grind anything out.
