Colt and Tim And Sam Make Three? P.S. On McCoy
1/12/2009 4:10:59 PM

Let’s see: Tim Tebow’s coming back, ditto for Colt McCoy. Will Sam Bradford make it three-for-three, giving college football fans even more to look forward to in 2009?
McCoy was the first of the three quarterback to announce he’d stick around for another season at Texas. Tebow made it a daily double when he did the same thing Sunday as Florida celebrated its national championship win over Oklahoma.
You have to admire Tebow’s style. The way he handled his announcement reminded me of a story a high school buddy told me years ago.
My friend attended college at Georgia Tech, where he went to see a Ray Charles concert in Atlanta with a bunch of his Ramblin’ Wreck pals.
The incomparable Charles, who made several curtain calls after a magnificent performance, started to leave the stage for the final time when he turned to the audience and said, “oh, did I forget something?” He then proceeded to unleash his signature song, “Georgia On My Mind,” and the place went absolutely bonkers.
Tebow did his Charles imitation when he started to leave the stage in Gainesville, Fla., then came back to tell Gator fans he was returing for his senior season.
But I digress.
One has to wonder if the decisions by Tebow and McCoy will affect Bradford’s thinking as he wrestles with deciding if he wants to play for the Sooners next season or get beat up behind a woeful Detroit Lions’ offensive line.
Shoot, Sam, let Matthew Stafford get run over in the Motor City by those crazed NFL linebackers and defensive ends. Stick around, play behind an offensive line that won't be nearly as weak as a lot of Big 12 fans hope, and see if you can spoil the plans of Tebow and McCoy to meet in next season’s BCS National Championship game at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
And if USC’s Mark Sanchez also comes back, think of the Fabulous Foursome of quarterbacks we’d have the pleasure of watching in just seven months. . .not that I’m counting the days until the 2009 season kicks off.
P.S. So ESPN is reporting Monday that it has learned Gerald McCoy is staying at OU? Really? Well, the Tulsa World "learned" that and reported it last week from Miami. Hmmmm....I guess it doesn't count until the self-proclaimed, self-important "World Wide Leader" has learned it.

Shoot Sam, you can either get paid several Million to get beat up in woeful Detroit or get beat up for free while standing behind a woefully green offensive line with no dynamite running back or reciever to give the ball to. I think I'd take the millions. (and yes, I would like you to leave for sake of my Pokes, I like their chances next year a whole lot more with you gone)

The only reason Tebow is sticking around is because he realizes if he goes to the NFL he will become a nobody and has-been. So he might as well stick around Florida for one more year and enjoying all the slurping he gets in the spotlight.

yeah it's easy to say he wont go because he'll be drafted by the Lions, but when you have 30+mill staring you in the face you can tend to forget about that 0-16 season and National championship game.

Chris I'm not so sure Tebow will become a nobody.I mean wherever he is drafted that team will get overnight publicity.ESPN will have a breaking news report if he ever steps foot on the field.NFLSHOP.com will be shipping jerseys right and left....you get the point.I do think Tebow can have some success in the NFL.Only,I mean ONLY if he gets put into a west coast Offense.

Chris,
I'm one of OU's biggest fans. I also know the character of Tim Tebow and what kind of man he is. We've already seen how great of a player he is. Don't put him down for beating us, that's sour grapes, dude. The young man is too good to be passed over by the NFL and he will be successful. Too bad he's returning to college, maybe we could win that NC next year, more easily with him gone.

Sure hope FAntastic Sam returns to OU.

I think the only reason Tim Tebow is sticking around is he loves the man crush love affair all the FOX, ESPN, AP writers and analysts have on him. To him, its better than money.
