JENKS — The Jenks Trojans were celebrating homecoming on Friday night and they almost forgot about the most important matter at hand.

Trailing at halftime, the Class 6A No. 1 Trojans scored touchdowns on their first three possessions of the third quarter and pulled away to a 34-13 win over Claremore in the District 6A-3 opener before about 4,000 spectators at Hunter-Dwelley Field.

Jenks junior running back Zack Langer scored his eighth and ninth touchdowns of the season and rushed for 232 yards on 32 carries. Junior quarterback Sawyer Kollmorgen threw for 193 yards and one score.

"We didn't play our kind of football in the first half and we felt like we needed to pick it up and play like we knew we could," junior receiver Brandon Kitchens said.

Kitchens caught Kollmorgen's TD pass, an 11-yard strike in the back of the end zone to end the Trojans' first scoring drive of the third quarter and put them ahead to stay. Kitchens had six catches for 58 yards.

"We were a little disappointed with our effort and execution in the first half, but with veteran linemen, you don't have to say much," Jenks head coach Allan Trimble said. "I appreciated them picking it up in the second half. They really opened some good holes."

Langer made good use of the holes they created for him. Held to 39 first-half rushing yards, he added 108 more on 14 carries in the third quarter and another 85 yards on 10 carries in the fourth quarter before retiring to the sideline with about four minutes to play.

Unofficially, he boosted his season rushing total to 587 yards in four games The Trojans mounted consecutive scoring drives of 69, 61 and 75 yards to lead 27-13 after three quarters.

Cory Jones also scored on an 8-yard run as the Trojans improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in district play.

Claremore (2-2, 0-1) held the Trojans to a pair of first-half field goals and raced 72 yards in the final minutes of the second quarter to lead 7-6 at halftime.

The big play in the drive was Gavin Little's 34-yard pass to Jordan Basks, setting up Little's 2-yard scoring toss to an open Tyler Butcher in the back of the end zone with 37 seconds left in the half.

Jenks took back the lead in the third quarter on Kollmorgen's pass to Kitchens and made it 20-7 on Langer's 8-yard run.

Claremore cut into the lead when sophomore tailback Chase Talbert threw an 8-yard halfback pass to Basks, capping an 80-yard drive, but Jones' scoring run made it 27-13 and the Trojans were on their way.
