The 90 points is a school record, breaking the previous mark of 77 set in 2005.

Bennett had two rushing and four passing touchdowns midway through the game, including a controversial 25-yard pass with 30 seconds left in the second quarter with the Hornets already up 69-0. His final throw put the Hornets up 76-0 at half.

Before the ensuing kickoff, the coaches met on the field in what appeared to be a heated exchange.

“There was no argument, no yelling. There was just some talking. Never really been a part of a game like that,” Miami coach Micah Nall said.

“Coach (Antwain) Jimmerson and I were just talking about this weekend’s college football games. … They are running their offense and we are running our defense and whatever happened, happened.”

Bennett said the team was trying to get more reps on offense because they so often scored on their first play in the first half. At one point in the second quarter, the Hornets had 55 points on 10 plays from scrimmage.

The coaches mutually agreed on a running clock in the second half.

Miami (0-5, 0-2) failed to score points for the first time this year. The team will return to Tulsa in two weeks to play Rogers. The Hornets bounced back from back-to-back losses to Broken Arrow and Bishop Kelley, improving to 3-2 and 1-1.

“When you score that many, trust me, it’s not fun on either end,” said Jimmerson, remembering his team’s 69-0 loss to Jenks in 2007. “This is not a fun night for anybody.”

Next week, the Hornets travel to Pryor.

“We needed a breakout game ourselves,” Jimmerson said. “If you lose two in a row the way we lost them, to not show up last week against Bishop Kelley and basically just hand the game to BA over at their place, we needed a victory.”
