Sapulpa’s offense has gotten a little more on track the last two weeks behind tailback Bryce Ferrell, who has 801 yards rushing and 405 receiving yards 11 TDs this season.

The Chiefs (1-7 overall, 1-4 District 6A- 3) face a tough task in hosting Highway 97 rival Sand Springs (4-4, 2-3) on Friday.

“He’s our Johnny Deaton,” Sapulpa coach Trandy Birch said, referring to the Sandites quarterback who just returned from a broken collarbone.

Speaking of Deaton, Birch said, “A player of his caliber to suffer that injury, that’s a travesty. as an opposing coach, I’m not real fired up about (facing him). "

Quarterback Michael Glisson has thrown for nearly 400 yards in the Chieftains’ games against Muskogee and Bartlesville and has some solid receivers in J.T. Barnett and Kendal Davis.

Providing coverage for Glisson are linemen Matt Noble, Mason Jones and Chris Birch.

Sapulpa linebacker Ryan Quadnau has 83 tackles while cornerback Kane Barnes and safety paden Fleak have been solid in the secondary.
