CLAREMORE — Cet Caldwell had a near perfect night for top-ranked Cascia Hall against Claremore Sequoyah. And the senior running back even redeemed himself.

Caldwell looked to put the nail in the coffin with a two-touchdown lead as he charged toward another score early in the fourth quarter. But he coughed up the ball, which allowed the Eagles to come back down the field for a TD to cut the deficit to one score.

Caldwell got his revenge, finishing with 278 rushing yards, including a big first-down run to melt the clock and allow Cascia Hall to hold on for a 28-21 win Friday in a rematch of last year's Class 3A state title game.

With the victory, the Commandos (8-0, 6-0) clinched the District 3A-3 championship and notched their 36th straight win. The No. 6 Eagles fell to 7-2 and 4-2.

Cascia Hall took a 28-14 lead midway through the third quarter when Garrett Waller intercepted a pass and returned it 21 yards for a TD. Waller also had a 20-yard scoring run in the first quarter.

After Waller's interception return, the Commandos got the ball back. Caldwell broke free on a 20-yard run before fumbling the ball at the Eagles 2. The play resulted in a touchback.

Claremore Sequoyah turned the opportunity into points. A dazzling 71-yard catch and run by Tanner Inman, which included a pair of crushing blocks, landed the Eagles on the Cascia 3. On the next play, QB Cody Richardson scored with 9:08 remaining.

Cascia Hall led 21-14 at halftime after a dizzying second quarter that included four touchdowns and back-to-back turnovers.

Caldwell ran for 114 yards in the first two quarters, including a 37-yard TD scamper, to put Cascia ahead 14-7.

The senior running back nearly fumbled away a scoring chance on the next series, but teammate Kyle Cowan was there to scoop up the loose ball and ran off 28 yards down to the Eagles 7. Two plays later, Stephen Rouse found Cale Kirtley for a 7-yard TD pass.

Both teams traded interceptions, and the latter recipient was the Eagles' Richardson. The senior turned his own pick into points as Claremore Sequoyah raced 62 yards in four plays. Richardson capped the drive with a 6-yard scoring strike to Michael Wangsgard.
