Victory still leaves Hornets helpless
Win means little, as forfeits will keep BTW out of playoffs.

SKIATOOK — The Booker T. Washington Hornets kept rolling Friday night, even if they had little to play for in the end.

Junior running back Isaac Bennett rushed for three touchdowns and sophomore quarterback Kelin Marshall accounted for three scores, pacing the second-ranked Hornets to a 56-10 win at winless Skiatook in District 5A-3 play.

In winning, the Hornets lost. They forfeited two games earlier this week for using an ineligible player and were officially eliminated from playoff consideration when Pryor beat Miami 41-0 on Friday night.

Even if the Hornets beat Bixby in next week's final regular-season game, they can do no better than a fourth-place tie in the district and would lose a tiebreaker with Pryor or Hale because Booker T. forfeited to both teams.

"We knew going into this week what the possibilities were, what the realities were," interim head coach Wade Weller said. "We couldn't worry about that. We just had to take care of ourselves and try to win these last two games."

Weller, a Hornets assistant, took over the program on Tuesday, when head coach Antwain Jimmerson was suspended for the rest of the school year.

"It's a great program, and nobody wants to take this position the way I got it, but I just want to do the best I can to represent this program and these kids," Weller said.

Bennett had scoring runs of 28, 15 and 8 yards and totaled 120 rushing yards on 11 attempts.

"It was the offensive line. I just ran in space, that's all I did," Bennett said. But he declined comment on whether he was disappointed on missing out on the playoffs.

In the immediate aftermath, Weller said he hadn't told his players about Pryor's win.

Marshall, making only his second start, threw two touchdown passes and scored on a 1-yard run.

"It was a great experience throughout the game. I started kind of slow, but my teammates helped me," Marshall said.

The Bulldogs recovered Marshall's errant pitch and scored the game's first points on Joe Smith's 32-yard field goal. Next, Marshall got loose on an apparent 63-yard scoring run that was nullified by a penalty against the Hornets.

After the Hornets finally got untracked, they scored on seven of eight possessions and added Tyler Lockett's 62-yard kickoff return to start the third quarter and led 56-3.

With the clock running continuously in the fourth, Skiatook drove 46 yards to score on Drake Keys' 6-yard run.

The Bulldogs' scores were their first in four games, since a 21-14 loss to Pryor on Oct. 2.

Counting forfeits, the Hornets are 5-4 overall and 3-3 in district play. Skiatook fell to 0-9, one loss from the school's first winless season since 1953.

Well, well, well, how about that. BTW relying on Miami to beat Pryor to have a shot at the playoffs.

Hey Bennett, in your article in the T World, you said if Pryor doesn't take care of business, you guys were going to "kill" or "bring it" in the playoffs.

Uh...looks like Pryor took care of business, 41-0.

Oh ya...I forgot...don't burn bridges, someday you may need to cross one. Also, remember, some day you might want someone to do something for you...so watch how you treat them.

BTW and Jimmerson should have eased up on Miami at say...oh...49-0? Even if Miami had a shot at a good Pryor team, they might have rolled over on purpose to "stick it" to BTW...(George Castanza)

What really counts is that the administration at BTW let the students down. How disappointing for a bunch of people who claim that teaching children is their calling, but cheat them for their own gain. But, look on the bright side, Jimmerson can take trimble's job. He is trained for it.

Didnt Union just put down the same type of beating on a team last night? Why are you guys talking trash to kids: you would be upset if someone said something tou your kid.

Speak to the adults, they were the stupid & greedy ones.

Yeah really. Karma can be a real you-know-what, uniondad. Just because Grant's not rural doesn't excuse you.

Goathead, your life lessons about burning bridges and humility are good ones for people of ALL ages but remember where the fault lies in this situation. Students didn't make the decisions about which plays to run in a game with high scoring. Students didn't violate recruiting rules; however, they are the ones paying the price for adult arrogance and dishonesty. Place the blame squarely where it belongs: Jimmerson and Principal Johnson.

the football team knew before all this we were not going to make playoffs because of the forfeits but we wanted to show people that we can still play and we want to try hard to show the adults that we can still move on after what they did to us. Beating bixby on the 6th will just prove that farther. Sometimes winning isnt everything thats what i think

Jenks and Booker T Washington are under investigation for ineligible players why hasn't Union been investigated. I know for a fact they have some ineligible players that played at the beginning of the year and some players that were ineligible last year played all season last year.

Why is Union exempt from this?

40 something - That is why I said Jimmerson and BTW should have eased up on Miami. My point wasn't to the kids, they were doing what the coaches told them.
