Stillwater used a 16-play, 70-yard drive that wiped away most of the third quarter, while at the same time wiping away a three-point Owasso lead. With just seconds left in the third, Pioneer quarterback Jerame Littell found a wide-open Trevor Davenport in the middle of the end zone.

That lone touchdown propelled Stillwater over No. 7 Owasso 7-3 in the regular-season finale for both schools in a District 6A-4 matchup at Owasso Stadium.

“This win was good for the senior kids,” said Stillwater head coach Rusty Atkins. “It’s a huge win to build off for next year.”

Owasso had already locked up second place in 6A-4, and thus a home game next week in the opening round of the playoffs. Owasso will face Bartlesville in the playoff opener.

Nevertheless, head coach Bill Patterson was upset with the way his team played.

“This is very disappointing,” he said.

The Pioneers (5-5, 4-3) had 76 total yards before the long drive. But after beginning at their own 30, they quickly moved into Owasso territory.

The most pivotal aspect of the drive was fourth-down conversions. Three times, the Pioneers were successful on fourth down, converting a fourth-and-2, and consecutive fourth-and-3s.

Littell completed 4-of-5 passes for 42 yards, and the go-ahead touchdown on the drive. The sophomore went 9-of-10 for 77 yards and a touchdown in the second half.

“We needed to get the ball moving in the second half,” Atkins said. “And he was fortunate enough to find some people that got open.”

Owasso (6-4, 5-2) never had the ball enough in the second half to get anything going. The Rams ran only four offensive plays in the third quarter, as their first drive netted only 3 yards and a punt.

The fourth play went for negative yardage. Owasso accumulated 1 yard in the third period.

The Rams snapped the ball 11 more times on offense the rest of the game, but managed only 17 yards on those plays.

Owasso opened a 3-0 advantage on a 20-yard field goal by Alex Fonseca with 17 seconds left in the opening quarter. Quarterback Joe Lindsey was effective running the ball, carrying 13 times for 89 yards in the first half.
