Redskins upend Plainsmen
Union wins 85th straight district game to clinch district title.

ENID — Jarred Davis rushed for a career-high 132 yards and a touchdown as No. 2 Union rolled over Enid 31-6 on Friday to win its 85th consecutive district game and clinch the District 6A-4 title.

"We got hooked up in the second half," said Davis. "The offensive line was great. We wanted to show we could run the ball. That's awesome to go undefeated in district and extend the streak to 85."

The Redskins (9-1, 7-0 District 6A-4) rolled up 332 yards on the ground and 436 overall, putting the Plainsmen away with a strong second half.

"The second half we really got it in gear," Union coach Kirk Fridrich said. "We got off to a good start, scoring two quick first-quarter touchdowns. The second quarter I thought Enid outplayed us. They made the plays in that quarter. We came out focused. The offensive line was tremendous. Enid has a really good running defense."

Defending 6A champ Union hosts Claremore on Friday in the first round of the playoffs.

The Redskins defense was even better, holding Enid (6-4, 4-3) to 138 yards, 41 on the ground.

"Our defense came out with an edge," senior safety Luke Snider said. "Enid was talking that they had the best run defense and we wanted to take that title back."

Union platooned three running backs in Davis, Jalen Hearron and Colton Dost. Hearron finished with 47 yards and Dost had 36 on four carries.

Quarterback Chase Boyce added 73 yards on the ground and a couple of touchdowns. He also completed 13-of-20 passes for 104 yards and a 9-yard TD pass to Kale Pearson.

"We've run three running backs most of the season and in Week 10, they all have fresh legs for the playoffs," Fridrich said.

The Redskins scored on their first two possessions. The first came on a 10-play drive that covered 74 yards, capped with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Boyce to Pearson.

Union took its second possession and went 84 yards in 11 plays with Boyce scooting in from 15 yards out.

Enid answered with a score on its third possession, marching 80 yards in 14 plays. Jonathan Burton scored on the Plainsmen's third try from the 1-yard line.

Senior wideout Donnie Fuston made a spectacular one-handed grab on an Alex Patterson pass for a 50-yard gain late in the half. But Union's defense stiffened to stop the drive.
