MOORE — Fourth-ranked Southmoore defeated sixth-ranked Bartlesville 49-28 in the Class 6A quarterfinals Friday night at Moore Stadium.

The Sabercats (11-1) will play top-ranked Jenks (12-0) in the semifinals next week at a site and time to be determined. The Bruins finished 9-3.

Southmoore trio Kendal Thompson, Andrew Long and Derek Serowski proved to be too much for Bartlesville.

Thompson completed 8-of-13 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. He also gained 84 yards on nine carries.

Long ran for 193 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns. Serowski had four receptions for 127 yards and three touchdowns.

For the Bruins, Kirby Schoenthaler completed 12-of-30 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns. He also had four interceptions. Jack Wiseman, Garrett Powell and Blake Hood combined for 257 receiving yards and had one touchdown grab apiece.

Long's 5-yard touchdown run provided the first points of the game with 31 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Then the teams combined for 42 points in the second. Bartlesville got the first score 57 seconds into the frame on a 60-yard pass from Schoenthaler to Wiseman.

The rest of the quarter went mostly in favor of Southmoore. A 64-yard pass from Thompson to Serowski gave the Sabercats the lead for good at the 9:37 mark.

The Sabercats extended their lead to 21-7 on Long's 32-yard run just over two minutes later.

The lead grew to 28-7 88 seconds later when a trick play resulted in a 59-yard scoring strike from Thompson to Serowski.

Austin Haywood took a snap in the Wildcat formation and handed off to Long, who pitched to Thompson, who had lined up at wide receiver.

Thompson then tossed the ball to Serowski, who caught the ball at the 20 and cruised into the end zone.

On the next offensive play, Schoenthaler rifled a 66-yard touchdown pass to Hood to get the Bruins within 28-14.

Haywood's 5-yard run pushed the edge to 35-14 and provided the final points of the half with 2:34 remaining.

Southmoore extended to a 42-14 lead on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Haywood to Serowski in the third period.

Schoenthaler connected with Powell on a 39-yard scoring strike with 6:50 left.

Backup quarterback Grant Shoemaker threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Michael Thompson with 42 seconds remaining for the final points.
