State Semifinals Review: 3A Semifinals: Cascia Hall (11-0) vs. Cl. Sequoyah (10-2)

By BARRY LEWIS World Sports Writer
Published: 11/28/2009  2:23 AM
Last Modified: 11/28/2009  6:42 AM

When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday

Where: Sallee Field, Collinsville

Radio: Internet — tulsaworld.com/casciaradio

Tickets: $7 adults, $5 students

Top players: Cascia Hall quarterback Stephen Rouse has completed 83-of-128 passes for 1,350 yards and 25 TDs with only three interceptions. His primary receiver is AZ Moyer, who has 32 catches for 524 yards and 12 TDs. Cet Caldwell has rushed for 1,347 yards and 16 TDs. He had a school-record 282 yards against Sequoyah earlier this year. Defensive back Garrett Waller has a team-high four interceptions and also can make big plays as a receiver. Fullback-defensive end Daniel Zabienski scored the winning TD to beat Sequoyah in last year's state final. Defensive leaders also include linebackers Conner Sherwood and Mikey Sutton.

Sequoyah's Wing-T offense is led by quarterback Cody Richardson, who has rushed for 568 yards and 10 TDs. Michael Wangsgard (932 rushing yards, 12 TDs) and Dakota Green (672 rushing yards, 14 TDs) are running backs that can shred opposing defenses. Defensive leaders include linebackers Wangsgard, Green, Gage DeLozier and Sam Radley, who has 129 tackles. Taylor Inman has kicked seven field goals and has five interceptions on defense.

Notable: This is the fourth meeting between the teams in 13 months. Cascia won 28-21 in last year's state final and in Week 9 this year. The teams won't meet in the regular season next year due to district realignment. Cascia Hall has a 39-game winning streak and is looking to win a state title for the third consecutive year. Sequoyah won a state title in 2006.

Matchup: Sequoyah's Wing-T offense against Cascia's "Blue Swarm" defense. Sequoyah ripped 3A's top-ranked defense in a 40-14 win over Tuttle last week and scored more points against the Commandos this year than any other opponent.
