Union senior linebacker Bobby Lind is looking forward to a rematch with Jenks in the Class 6A state championship football game on Friday night.

"This is what we wanted," Lind said. "It's time to go to work and get ready to play them."

Lind helped lead a defensive effort that limited Broken Arrow to 73 yards in the second half as second-ranked Union rallied for a 24-13 victory over No. 3 Broken Arrow on Saturday night at the University of Tulsa's Chapman Stadium, which also will be the site for the title game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

"Our game plan was to keep pressure on their quarterback (Archie Bradley) and that's what we did in the second half," Lind said.

Union's defense held Broken Arrow to six points after the Tigers drove for a touchdown on the game's opening drive.

"Dalton Davis and our defensive front did a real nice job, and so did our linebackers, Bobby Lind, Blace Walser and Luke Snider — they also did a great job," Union coach Kirk Fridrich said.

As a result, defending champion Union (12-1) will play No. 1 Jenks (13-0) in the state title game for the third consecutive year. Union will try to avenge its only loss of the season, 27-25, to Jenks in Week 2 at Chapman Stadium.

The game will include a matchup of Union's top-ranked 6A defense against Jenks' No. 1 scoring offense in 6A. Lind and his defensive teammates will need to also put pressure on Jenks quarterback Sawyer Kollmorgen, who has passed for 2,319 yards and 23 TDs this season. Union, after holding Broken Arrow to 59 yards rushing, will try to slow down Jenks tailback Zack Langer. Langer leads 6A with 2,220 rushing yards and 38 touchdowns.

Lore, Ross lead Jenks defense: Jenks defensive linemen David Lore and Alex Ross continued to have a strong postseason in a Saturday's 44-26 win over Southmoore.

Lore had nine tackles, including three for losses. He has 39 tackles in three playoff games. Ross had 10 tackles against Southmoore, including two for losses.

Wilson lifts Lincoln: When Roman Wilson began his football career at Lincoln Christian, his primary contribution was as a kicker. During the past two years, however, he also has become one of the state's top receivers and is a starting defensive back.

On Friday night, Wilson's kicking ability proved to be important as his 27-yard field goal with one second left gave the top-ranked Bulldogs a 24-21 victory at No. 2 Davis. Lincoln (12-1) advances to meet No. 8 Pawhuska (11-2) in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Skiatook.

Because the Bulldogs have won so many games by lopsided margins in the past three years, it was Wilson's first chance to kick a winning field goal.

"Before the kick I just had clear my mind, focus on the kick, treat it like any other kick and not think about how important it was," Wilson said. "I knew what I had to do. When I saw the ball go through (the uprights) it was an amazing feeling."

Wilson, who had 11 receptions for 130 yards, set up the field goal with a catch at the 10-yard line. He caught four Cale Grauer passes for 56 yards on the 80-yard drive that took 2:12. Wilson also made a key tackle to force a Davis punt that led to Lincoln's winning drive.

"I think it's our biggest win ever," Wilson said. "It was so huge for us to win at a place with so much tradition.

"We had never been in that situation before where we had to have a two-minute drive like that to win a game. But we work on that every day and it showed what we're made of as a team to battle through a tough game like that."

The last-second win made the three-hour bus trip home much more enjoyable.

"When we first got on the bus we were all having a lot of fun, but then it got quiet because we were all so tired we fell asleep," Wilson said.

Wilson had two TD catches in Lincoln's 48-0 victory over Pawhuska in Week 8.

"We know it's going to be much harder the second time around and that we'll get Pawhuska's best shot," Wilson said.

My son's a starter on the "D" line for Union, so you know who I will be cheering for, however this is for THE SCOUT - The Jenks Trojans had a GREAT season, they absolutely deserve to be playing in the championship game. Some mistakes MAY have been made, but the young men on that team had nothing to do with it, they overcame all the negative press, the loss of their head coach and played a great year of football. I for one am looking forward to a exciting Union/Jenks football game. GO SKINS!!!!!!!

Classy called2fight. This game, I'm sure, is what Jenks wanted too. (Can you imagine SMoore vs BA!? aaarrgghhh!) Should shape up to be another classic. The 2 best teams are certainly in the title game. Best of luck to all the boys on both teams!

Unlike with the BCS in college (most of the time & especially this year with possibly 5 undefeated teams to argue for playing in a national championship), at least we get the 2 best teams to play it out on the field. Go Skins!!!

Scout.... What is your problem???? You have been spewing hate all season. Get over it. Jenks administration made some big mistakes, we investigated and came clean (revealing way more than we had to in order to be COMPLETELY HONEST AND TRANSPARENT), and we were punished HARSHLY! It’s now old news! Let’s celebrate two great programs that train and prepare well and graduate GREAT kids’ season after season. Many people want to continue to throw rocks at both Jenks and Union because we have great programs. I guess if they can’t beat us on the field, they will go after us any other way they can. Just for your info out of the 25 to 28 starters on this year’s Jenks team - all but one have been in the Jenks program since 8th grade....Only 1 move in, and he came in last year as a sophomore. 99% of our players are "home grown". Scout, I invite you to come see our program, coaches, and kids up close and see the class and hard work it takes to build a champion!...GO JENKS!!!! BRING HOME ANOTHER GOLD BALL!!!

Why do people have to come bring such hate on a fine Oklahoma tradition. This has evolved into something that transcends high school sports. This is about community and the hard work and dedication of two school systems that strive hard to achieve academic and athletic excellence. As a father of children in the Union school district, I am proud of what it stands for. I have nothing but respect for the Trojans. It took Jenks for Union to up its game. Oh yeah, GO REDSKINS!!!

The athletes of these two storied programs reach far beyond the playing field. These kids go to Church together, vacation together, play golf together, etc. The mutual respect between the two schools is exemplary in every way. Make no mistake, come Friday night, they will compete in a manner and on a level that will captivate the attention of true Football fans throughout our state. "Same ole, same ole?" "Boring?" If you genuinely love football, how could this be true?

No one gave either team anything. They earned it. They met all competition head on and prevailed, down after down, conversion after conversion, score after score, year after year. Others will aspire to emulate this great tradition and rivalry. They will study these programs, discipline themselves toward a pursuit of excellence, and realize the making of a Champion. And, I for one, hope they succeed...

Union - we will see you Friday!

Good luck,
Father of a Jenks Football Player
