Defending state champion

Guthrie (27-2) goes for three state titles in a row, but coach Pete Papahronis loses All-State players Donte Foster and Keaton Callins. The Bluejays return three starters —Deyon Hall, B.J. McDonald and Kentrell Brothers.

Top area contenders

Booker T. Washington (23-4) lost three starters from last season's semifinalists, but coach Shea Seals' talented group of newcomers includes Juwan Parker, who is the state's best freshman.

Edison (20-10) returns four starters — top scorers Desmond Butler and Steven Hamilton plus Tim Smallwood and point guard Clyde Hill. Coach Michael Parish's other returnees who had considerable playing time last season include 6-8 center Drew Craig, Ehron Ponds, Creed Flowers, D.J. Mahone and Derrick Jefferson

Memorial (22-4) has two starters from its 2008 6A state champions — Cameron Downing and Draper Sturdivant. Coach Eric Savage looks for his third state title in eight years.

Players to watch

Tharone Chilton

Booker T. Washington, 6-2, Sr., G

Has often been a go-to player late in games for the Hornets over the last two seasons. Averaged 12 points per game as a junior. His favorite athlete is Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony.

Steven "Pooh" Hamilton

Edison, 6-5, Jr., F

Compares his style of play to Boston Celtics star Kevin Garnett. Sank the winning trey with four seconds left in the state quarterfinals. Averaged 14 points per game.

Draper Sturdivant

Memorial, 6-0, Sr., G

A strong defensive player who doesn't score a lot of points but does the intangibles it takes to win a championship, as he showed in 2008.

Pooh also dunked over 2 Owasso centers last week in a scrimmage against the Rams..... Guthrie better watch out. The last two years Edison was beat by them in the quarters and semis, after losing two "All Americans" they'll have a tough time against the Eagles this year who only lost 1 Senior.
